About Cliffton

Hey, I'm Cliff. I've been game-mastering since September of 2019. I've mostly run long-term campaigns with a few one-shots, mostly for D&D5e/Homebrewed games.

I got started GMing...

I got started GMing thanks to my younger brother who encouraged me to try it. Our friend group at the time started a campaign with seven players, and it was such a success that to this day I am still living from that high!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Probably playing Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars 2, or Wizard101 for the nostalgia trip with my cousin. If not that then I'm likely spending time with my family.

How Cliffton runs games

I tend to focus more on story and roleplay with combat being included to enhance the stories I tell. I am practicing voices, but am by no means fantastic at it.

My games focus on...

Story telling, and roleplay. Combat happens when it makes narrative sense, not just because there should always be a fight.

Rules are...

Guidelines. There to help balance the game, but every game is different, and rules need to adapt to those differences.

I love it when a player

starts to put pieces together in my story. That moment where they go "ooooohhh", or come up with some cool conspiracy about what's going on.

I think metagaming...

is unavoidable, but should be mitigated as much as possible. Yeah, you might know how to pronounce 'prestidigitation' but how would your character who's never gone to magic training school know?

I think min/maxing...

is rather boring. Come to the table with a flaw that someone else at the table can help balance out! We're playing a collaborative game, so lets collaborate!
