About Benjamin

I started with 4th edition D&D, played a bit of 5th, and currently play and run pathfinder 1st edition. I run in my own world, use a significant amount of home brew, and enjoy game design and creating new systems and mechanics. My world is mostly medieval, however there is an emerging steam train system connecting a few major cities, and early firearms.

I became a GM because

My first time running something that lasted more than a few sessions was a few years ago when I got invited to a living world that was running pathfinder 1e. After a few months as I learned the system, I applied to be a GM and was approved, and began running.

How Benjamin runs games

I typically run dungeons that are tied to the main plot (or current side plot), I try to have at least one B plot going on at any given time, and keep the world moving outside of just the players view. I prefer any downtime that can be done through just text to be done outside of session. I also use mostly custom enemies, meaning there is usually more interesting monsters at lower level, and if you are heavily experienced, you'll be able to fight new things or new variants of things, rather than just the same old monsters again. Something especially nice about the custom monsters is that they usually speed up combat without changing the end results too much.

I prep by

Creating the general premise of the quest, finding maps that fit the story, then using the details of the maps to inspire the rest. Larger plots don't generally fit on maps, so for those I typically take several ideas and try to find ways to fit them together in a way that makes sense.

Benjamin's ideal table

It's mostly about having fun doing cooperative problem solveing in a semi-realistic world. Usually that problem involves losing some HP, but that's besides the point.

I love it when a player

Creates goals for their character other than just the main plot. Sure, the main plot should be one of your characters goals, even if just to steal the BBEG's gold, but any person that would realistically end up past level 3 is someone with either complex or many goals.
