About Hess

Come to one of my games if you: -want help as a new player -are more interested in fun role-play and combat than arguing about dice -want help discovering what games/kinds of games/you will enjoy the most -want your personal boundaries and needs prioritized in the gaming space -only want to play with nice people (I am allergic to table-jerks and drama, forreal real) -want to play in some chopped-and-screwed versions of your favorite games, or develop new home-brews all your own Excuse my #restingautismface in my profile, I promise I am hella animated in game sessions! I am a teacher and artist with...I am frightened to say...30 years of gaming experience. I started out as a HEROQUEST kid with my best friend Gavin in the landline era, and then hopped to Shadowrun, Vampire/Werewolf/Etc during the Age of Dial-up, ran D&D games, homebrews and everything under the sun during the Rise of the Brick Phone. I think the best thing about working with an experienced GM/Gamerunner/Storyteller is that they have the experience and confidence not only to consult about the rules, but the maturity to resolves tensions at the table, create a safe space for players to feel prepared to dive in for the big play, and generate joy and adventure in unexpected ways. Since the Dawn of Nu D&D, I've been playing and Game Mastering D&D, Dungeon World, Blades in the Dark, Monster of the Week, Cyberpunk, CoCthuhlu, Starhold, and various others, as well as hacking and remixing various related and homebrew sytems. If you want your game sessions to be something fun, but also personal to you, hit me up and let's play.

How Hess runs games

I bring energetic and diverse character voices, dynamic combats, and high-adrenaline situations that move the players forward with a sense of urgency. And you know what I don't bring (something I wish more GMs included): -overly complex plots -astounding puzzles -stress at the table So if you're looking for a 2 year campaign about high political intrigue, I am probably not your GM...but if you want to jump out of the gate into a fun, wild, high stakes situation, whether it's sci-fi, fantasy, or grounded in our own world, let's do it.
