About ReflexiveTern (Calum)
Hey Folks! I'm Calum (Or Mulac/Reflexive Tern, as I go by online) and I've been running and playing tabletop games for over a decade now! They are my absolute passion, and I love them to bits! I love the stories they tell, the characters who fill them, and the community around them! When not running games (Or planning to run games) I spend my time reading, playing video and board games, and taking long walks in the countryside! I have a full time (And very boring) job, but the world being how it is right now, I need a second gig! And thankfully, I've already got some skills to use for that. My other interests, often find their way into the way I run games. My fascination for anthropology and history (Especially the anthropology of religion and magic, which was once my specialism), my love of fantasy literature and so on. I'm also Dyspraxic! So I am especially understanding of the neurodivergent experience, and can sometimes find myself coming at problems from an unusual angle!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Pathfinder 2, for adventures in heroic fantasy. Call of Cthulhu, for long nights around the fire watching shadows flicking across the trees. Traveller, for dreams of escape amongst the stars. ...and with the number of sourcebooks out for those three, I could build a pretty good raft!
My favorite books are
The Discworld Series, The Age of Myth/Riyria Chronicles Books, the Earthsea Books, and the works of Brandon Sanderson! I also have a huge soft spot for urban fantasy like the Dresden Files, Rivers of London, and the Laundry Files.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Wandering the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, soaking in the weather (Sometimes literally, British weather being what it is) and hunting for inspiration! When not doing that, I listen to audiobooks, play plenty of video games, and play a tonne of boardgames.
How ReflexiveTern (Calum) runs games
I love telling a good story. That is the key truth that underpins my whole career as a GM. Even more than that, I love collaborating on a good story with fellow storytellers… and that includes you! As a Gamesmaster, I always aim to be my players’ biggest fan. I love watching the heroes, scoundrels or other protagonists of a TTRPG evolve, change and grow into themselves (Or out of themselves, occasionally ;) ) as the story progresses! For me, that means that I usually run a game which finds a good balance between Roleplay, Story, Exploration and Combat. After all, what is a good story without stakes! Though I’m not a voice actor (I certainly attempt it, however!) I consider myself a storyteller and writer, first and foremost. Though unfortunately due to my full-time job I don’t have the time to write the epic homebrew campaign I would love to write, I have a wonderful time adapting the work of other expert storytellers to my needs, mostly Paizo’s fantastic pathfinder 2 adventure paths! Though I would be open to running any system which has a robust number of pre-written modules. These pre-written adventures I modify and adapt, to fit whatever characters I am given, making sure that their backstory and the main plot become as woven together as possible. As for what my tables feel like, I run friendly, inclusive and accepting games. I have zero tolerance for bullies or bigots, and generally seek to resolve any issues with consideration, communication and empathy. I always aim to foster community in my games that lasts beyond the barriers of the narrative being told and into our real lives.
