About DM Chris
Hi 👋 My name is Chris and I enjoy running and playing games of dungeons and dragons 5e. I’ve been a dungeon master for over 9 years, running at least one game a week. I’ve been lucky enough to play several multiple year long campaigns with others, exploring a wide variety of settings. I found TTRPG’s during a hard time in my life and it’s helped me a lot, I’d like to help more people by being a welcoming gateway into the hobby. I have 1000+ hours of playtime logged on roll20 and even more in other Vtts.

I became a GM because
as long as I can remember I've wanted to play ttrpg's but there was never a GM, so I took the plunge so other people could get the chance. In a time when I needed something, I found ttrpgs and I enjoy helping others find it too.
I got started GMing...
in 2018 with my first game, Lost mine of Phandelver. I took a break to play OotA, returning in 2020 to run it several more times eventually memorizing it. I've ran several original and published adventures and built my own crystal sphere setting since.
People are always surprised when I tell them
I GM'ed while in the hospital once!
How DM Chris runs games
I'll do some bullet points then expand in more detail below. 1. I'm a GM who focuses on integrating the characters into the story and their actions driving the narrative/session. 2. I run mostly "theater of the mind" to leave plenty of room for imagination, with maps or images as a visual aide more than a set in stone expectations. 3. I'm a loose GM, receptive to player questions, input and feedback in any and all situations, during, before and after. 4. I will make mistakes, do bad voice and forget things. 5. I try to act fairly and without malice as a GM. My game is never player vs GM, and always player vs the story. I try my best to do voices, and encourage roleplay while also keeping it light. The more you want role play the more I’ll respond to it. I enjoy running more of a laid back “fun run” kind of game but also try to keep the suspense up as best I can. I promise a very friendly, fun over function type of game that still adheres to the rules as best I can, in most cases the rule of cool wins. I will try its best to provide you with whatever pillar of play you enjoy the most while incorporating them all. I do have ADHD so some things sneak by me, but I’ve found that mostly adds to the fun moments. If a strict following of the rules and tight play style appeals to you more then I may not be the right dm for you but I can accommodate all players as best I can.

I prep by
making bullet points, a goal for the heroes and villains and setting a series of triggers that will happen once the players take certain actions or go certain places. Everything in between in player driven or improv.
My games focus on...
having fun and players driving the action forward.
When it comes to voices
just do the best you can and remember that sometimes the worst ones are the best ones.
DM Chris's ideal table
I run an open, inclusive table. Nobody is excluded and cooperative behavior is required first and foremost, my table comes with a social contract and agreement that nothing will be attributed to malice and to never act in it. Every play style is welcome at my table. If you can remember we're all there to have fun, then you will too.

I am for a vibe that's...
about community and friends getting together to do what they enjoy and washing away the stress with a little bit of goofing off doing nerd stuff.
I love it when a player
takes initiative to describe what their actions look like thematically or create something in my setting.
I think metagaming...
is a difficult thing to define sometimes, isn't it... Lets not get too caught up on it and just try do our best to separate character and player/GM knowledge.
