About Cas

Hey! My name is Tomas, but you can call me Cas. I'm a 30-year old guy from Argentina, and I've been running tabletop RPGs for almost 9 years now, both pre-written modules and entirely self-made ones. I love making interesting combat encounters, puzzles, magic treasures and cinematic moments for the characters to shine and feel cool!

I got started GMing...

by creating my own one shot, as my very first interaction with TTRPGS. My partner at the time was very eager to learn DnD, and we ended up learning together while I dmed for them on a series of 1 on 1 one shots. I read the entire PHB and DMG prior, back to back. My friends still tease me about it.

When I'm not running games I'm...

playing them! I'm still an avid 5e and Draw Steel player, and I'm happy to enjoy the great DMing that my friends do for us, every week. But outside of TTRPGS, I enjoy my time gaming in general, as well as reading Manhwa (Korean manga).

How Cas runs games

I love crafting a detailed story with cinematic moments and an interesting plot for the players to lose themselves into. I try my best to intertwine the overarching story with the individual stories of each PC, allowing them to develop their own characters as they explore what is happening in the world. Things like meaningful decisions and realistic NPCs with problems that don't have a simple solution make for great triggers for character development and to showcase the way they think and interact with the world. Combat, of course, is another big pillar of my games. I try to provide a variety of combat situations, rather than "There's the enemies. Kill them all". An encounter built around protecting a key target or stealing an item from the enemy forces is much more interesting and breaks up the monotony of an all-out brawl between two opposing factions. The most important thing to keep in mind, is that while I might be running the bad guys, I'm not your enemy. I want my players to succeed and to wipe the floor with the baddies. I want them to feel strong and heroic, and I tend to hand out cool loot and give them opportunities to show what they're good at. We're here to fulfill a fantasy, and for that to happen, you need to feel like a proper hero (or villain, sometimes) that can do incredible things.

I deal with rules issues by...

I generally rule things in favor of the players first, and then I research the issue later, after the session. If a written rule addresses the problem, then we utilize that, provided it's not an issue for the player. If it is, then I speak with the player and try to reach a middle ground.
