About Bryce
Ahoy and Howdy! Been into TTRPGs for over fifteen years. I've lived in forests, deserts, mountains, and a tropical island. I love the shared storytelling aspect of TTRPGs, as well as the freedom they offer to explore. Explore both physical locales (be they ancient temples and ruins, fantastical cities, or new planets), but also exploration of character, what drives someone forward, how does someone react in the face of dangers, horrors, or opportunities. Endless possibilities are the promise of a good TTRPG. What will you do with the options, the powers, the choices, that are placed before you?

My favorite shows/movies are
I like a wide variety of eclectic things but I recently watched Paprika (2006) and it was the most captivating film I've seen in ages. Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit cartoon (never the live action ones). I like smart films and weird films and camp, cheese, and schlock films. Severance. Firefly.
When I'm not running games I'm...
busy raising my two children.
How Bryce runs games
Passion for creating stories together with players. Interesting characters and player expression are important to me. I like to take the world of the game seriously, while letting us as the real world players (and GM) keep things fun. Role-play encouraged. IMO there is a spectrum between "Rules as Written" and creative "Rule of Cool". I like to stick to the technical game aspect of things, or else we might as well be writing creative fiction together (which is valid), but there can be a lot of space for creative interpretations and implementations. Rulings beat Rules, Rule of Cool can be called upon, if the game and the story would be better for it. Sometimes a good dungeon crawl or a nice impactful combat can be fun too, particularly in a system that keeps things moving.

I deal with rules issues by...
usually making a quick ruling in the moment, and addressing it later, like during downtime, as necessary. I don't retcon situations we've already played, but occasionally will have to say "we'll do it like This going forward."
I prep by
reading, writing, deep thought, and a hearty breakfast. And most importantly, a big cup of coffee ;-)
Rules are...
there for a reason, and I like the structure they provide. That said, sometimes that reason doesn't mesh with the game my players want. It's a game, but not an immutable one. I like to stick to the rules, unless we have a reason not to!
Bryce's ideal table
I like a comfortable atmosphere where people from all walks of life can come together and have a good time. The game can get dark and serious, but if we're not enjoying it when that happens then we've gone astray somewhere. I've GM'd for total newbies and RPG diehards, so I'm happy to accommodate anyone who comes to have a good time.

I love it when a player
surprises me with a creative solution to a problem. Or when they do something totally unexpected that changes the game. But also, I love it most when a player just shows up and has a good time.
I think metagaming...
is too broad a topic with too many ways to do something that's "metagaming" to be able to have a quick pithy opinion on the topic as a whole. That said... if you're using out of game information to benefit your in game character at the expense of others, that's boring.
I think min/maxing...
isn't inherently good or bad, depending on the game/players/GM. If everyone is intentionally playing a difficult, high risk high reward, adversarial, crunchy type of game, min-maxing is kind of expected, yeah? That said I don't run that type of game usually so I don't expect to see it at my tables.
