About David

I am a veteran of 30 years of Table Top Roleplaying, Live Roleplaying, and Online play. I have recently stepped away from LARP, to focus on online gaming with friends. I am passionate about roleplay as an expression of storytelling and am seeking collaborative work with kindred spirits.

I ran my first game...

I ran my first game in 1984, and have been a DM/GM for various systems ever since. When I hit college, I was running two to three games a year with full campaigns. Now, I average three years plus for my campaigns.

My favorite system of all Time is

My favorite system of all time remains Dungeons and Dragons. In all its incarnations and updates, it captures that sense of wonder and adventure that is my yardstick for any other game. It remains my passion and home system.

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I am not running games, I attend Live Action Roleplay games in local campsites for fully immersive gameplay.

How David runs games

My gaming style emphasizes setting and world building, with considerable flexibility for players to author their own stories within the shared work I facilitate. I believe that players are as much a force for creativity as I am, With investment into the game setting, a player should have a chance to add their vision to the Campaign. GM/DM wise I am rule of cool, as well as present an inclusive table, with safety tools, and Session Zero mandatory.

I prep by

I prepare my games by listening to music, depending on mood and theme of the campaign. Then review notes from past session and my campaign outline. I am fully aware no battle plan survives contact with players, so I tend to leave my planned content with wide latitude for player agency.

My games focus on...

My games focus on bringing a world to life, to give my players choices in what to interact with. My campaign settings tend towards avoiding rigid tropes, that restrict player agency. Note taking is encouraged, as well as exploration within a detailed setting.

Rules are...

Rules are guidelines that give structure to gameplay. Without them, the sense of achievement and overcoming challenges loses meaning. That said, rules serve the game, but the shared story is what brings players into a fantasy setting and is the payoff for their roleplaying.

David's ideal table

My ideal table is a shared, inclusive space that encourages player agency, and creativity. Players who enjoy roleplay and collaborative story telling fit well at my table. I encourage a relaxed atmosphere above table, while in game bringing real consequences and controlled tension within the campaign.

I am for a vibe that's...

I try to give the vibe at my table that emphasizes a casual gaming experience, with inclusion for many playing styles, while in game providing the atmosphere that brings real stakes and consequences for player choices.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you are into participation in an ongoing epic story, while directing your character's place in the campaign, you are going to love my table.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player succeeds against the odds, and brings their own joy of their character into the game. I enjoy their immersion within the game as my primary motivation to run games. Silly, serious and everything in between is free game as long as we share the fun!
