About Billy Duelman

Yo! My name is Billy D and I really like playing games, once I started in with ttrpgs it was all over. Since then, I've gained about 9 years of ttrpgs on either side of the table over the years. I've hosted westmarches with players more versed in the rules than myself as well as newbies with none. I've made custom classes for players(as well as myself) that have been imo very well balanced, As well as hosting one shot power fantasy games. So like that's the experience part now the about me; I'm 33 and a full time optician, I really enjoy taking my time to help people of all walks have a good time, whether it's through a fun gaming experience where they get to have a meaningful impact on the world, or a patient who wants to tell you about their day while you get them some "new eyes". Being able to engage with and entertain my "audience" has always been one of my favorite things to do. I don't tolerate hate or bullies. In game, sure there may be a people that oppressed another people and a "hate" element to the story, but I have no room for that at my tables, whether it's focused at or just coming from one of my players. We're all just trying to have a good time and sometimes that's all we have, no one should take away all that you have. (Unless it's an in-game thieves guild!)

My favorite books are

Just about anything written by either Terry Pratchett or Yoshihiro Togashi. From Pratchett: the Wee Fee Men (a Discworld novel) From Togashi: Hunter x Hunter (Black Whale Arc) **Special shout out to western comics as well, big fan of complex stories told through a fantastic lens.

When I'm not running games I'm...

How Billy Duelman runs games

I like to go by the rules more often than not, not "rules as written" but rules as intended. I don't like too much meta gaming/power gaming so I do pay attention to what my players pitch and I usually allow most things, just with a caveat of "I reserve the right to remove or alter any homebrew". I almost always try and work with player ideas, so roleplay and creative solutions are highly encouraged. No such thing as bad ideas, just harder DCs. I want everyone to shine when we play, if you show up and dedicate time and attention to the game, that deserves to be reciprocated. I always show up on time and if I can't make any session, everyone involved(players or dm) get notices minimum of 3 days in advance, if not a week.(I have a set work schedule) If any players have any issues they are always welcome to address the issue with myself after the game. Unless it's a pressing matter then of course they are encouraged to dm me directly when they feel the need. Any conflict that arise at my tables is handled respectfully and without favoritism of any kind. I am very empathetic and understanding, I ask my players to be as well. And if it comes to it I hate to but have had to kick a couple of players for their own reasons. I think if we're all here to play a game of make believe, we can all be cool with other people playing make believe with us. Whether a vet or a scrub, this is a great place to find some like minded peeps and roll some dice. Y'know?

My games focus on...

an overarching plot that the world is dealing with in some capacity, but with no set outcome. I come up with "what if" scenarios and trust the players to tell the story.

When it comes to voices

I love hearing them and I love doing them, just don't be surprised if shopkeep #7 ends up sounding like warrior #13 partway through.

Billy Duelman's ideal table

Somewhere between beer and peanuts a Knives Out story and Ranking of Kings. A lightheaded gathering of like-minded dice rollers. The environment at the table is more a gathering of friends, but friends who are working towards the same goal and who compound off of each other's ideas and respect each other's ideals. I try and create a world that feels not only alive, but waiting to be explored. I love taking the actions and interests of the players and turning them into hard facts, lore and sometimes plot points. This table is OUR table, whether I lay out the world the players interact with or we decide what kind of world you adventure in together. I welcome all types of players and therefore I do not allow out of character hate between the players. Rp is one thing but if you start to make people uncomfortable or if I don't like the vibe then I'll address it as necessary. On that note if players consent I fully endores player vs player combat and in the right setting, I'll allow backstabbing or other such tricky or nefarious activities. (More often then not I strongly encourage player cooperation and for characters to be assumed to be able to work together as it helps for a more synergetic table and generally a more enjoyable experience.)

I love it when a player

uses appropriate RP or comes up with something on the fly. It might not always be an idea that I ok, but if you think your character should be able to go through not the door, or the window but the wall instead. Well let's hear your reasoning! You want inspiration? Get your creative on.

I think metagaming...

unfortunately unavoidable, but only to an extent. If you miss on a 12 and your party member hits on a 13, well you know that AC is 13 and I don't mind that being said to the party because, well, it's obvious. There are varying degrees of meta gaming and I'll tell you if you get close to the line.

My table is not the place for...

hate. Don't bring that here.
