About Anders

I'm a twitch streamer vtuber that goes by Beyond_the_Table. I stream Dungeons and Dragons campaigns and One Shots. I'm also a Fantasy Writer. I've been running d&d 5e games for close to a decade. My introduction to d&d was critical role back in 2016. I hyperfixated on D&D and dove headfirst into learning the rules and what things players like to explore in ttrpgs. That was almost a decade ago, and the hyperfixation never stopped. I love D&D and it brings me unlimited joy to craft an engaging world for the players of my games.

I got started GMing...

Shortly after I was introduced to Critical Role back in 2016. I love the way Matt Mercer runs games so I try to run games in a similar way. Compelling story, voices, ambient music, and intriguing villains.

My favorite books are

The Dragonlance series and RA Salvatore's Drizzt series. As well as the Sword of Truth series.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Spending time with my wife and daughter. I also spend my time writing fantasy novels and short stories.

How Anders runs games

My GM style is story first. I run character focused games. The first half to three quarters of the campaign is the character arcs then I finish it off with a big set piece or large plot point once the players have finally fleshed out their characters. I'm more of a rule of cool DM than a rules lawyer. I'd prefer to say "You can certainly try" than just say no. I also try to make the world more engaging by using voices and ambient music in my games. I feel like it makes the world more real and helps with immersion.

My favorite trope is...

Miscommunication. If done well, a good Miscommunication can further the plot in interesting ways.

My games focus on...

Story first. Combat is important but I also try to limit combat to encounters that further the plot. 70 percent of my games are Role play.

When it comes to voices

I've been told I'm very skilled at creating interesting accents and dialects so that each npc seems different.

Anders's ideal table

I enjoy jokes and funny moments, but I do prefer a bit of seriousness at the table. We are building a story, so fart jokes and crude humor should be limited. These characters have struggles they are trying to overcome and I request that anyone playing in one of my games treats their characters with the respect they deserve. That being said, I won't ever tell you how to play your character.

I am for a vibe that's...

Relaxed and comfortable. I want my players to feel at home.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Story driven games with stakes and compelling villains.

I love it when a player

Gets involved with their backstory and have ideas for their character arcs. Brainstorming between sessions shows me your engaged with the content and are entertained by the story.
