About Becca
I am a 1 year DM looking to build my own experience while also teaching new-ish players and providing that space that encourages learning. The first time I ever played a TTRPG was in grade school and it was shown to me as a combat and fighting game. Fast forward a few years and in University I finally realized the potential in story telling that TTRPGs can have when compared to movies or tv when you aren't constrained by time.

I became a GM because
I had found a new interested in D&D and the stories we could tell in a game format. At the time I didn't have a DM or anyone to run games so I decided to run my own and bring my closest friends into one of the worlds I hold dear.
How Becca runs games
Something I've always done for my personal PCs as a player and have encouraged players to do is to choose the option that makes sense within the story we're telling together. I love combat but always try to make it more than just "kill xyz" with every encounter. However I'm self aware to know that combat balancing and bringing RP into the battlefield is something one can always get better at. I also take a lot of pride in making sure conversation is always open with my players and that expectations are understood and grow with the table.

I deal with rules issues by...
first seeing if I can find an answer quickly. Though if it's taking too long I'll make a judgement in the moment and I confirm later if it will be a new house ruling or not. To minimize confusion, I'll clarify with the table what will happen moving forward should the scenario come up again.

I love it when a player
tries something new that they have never done before and are having fun regardless of the results. It really shows me how confident and safe they feel in their character's shoes and at the "table". I know first hand how playing with strangers is scary, but to see that switch? Worth every second.
I think min/maxing...
has a time and a place. There are benefits in making sure you can keep up as the game progresses in difficulty, however it should never completely cloud over any story moments that could develop a PC. I say never be afraid to pick the less "perfect" option because that's where you can be creative.
