About AnyaTheGM
Hello, I’m Anya. 👋 Lead Storyteller at AMJR-GAMING. I spent years as a player feeling like the best story beats were often held back by clunky rules or technical hitches. Eventually, I decided to jump behind the screen and build the games I always wanted to play: sessions that feel like a cinematic epic rather than a maths lesson. I’m currently guiding my 5th and 6th groups through Descent into Avernus. Because I know the Nine Hells like the back of my hand, I don’t have to spend the session with my nose in a book—I’m free to focus entirely on your characters and the "Rule of Cool." I’m not here to be your adversary; I’m the narrator who’s cheering you on and setting you up for those massive "hero moments." How we’ll play: I’m a massive IT nerd and Linux devotee, but I use that side of my brain to keep things simple and stress-free for you. We use the official D&D Beyond tools because they’re reliable and easy to use. To keep the story moving, I use Theatre of the Mind for exploration, but when the swords come out, I provide clean, high-contrast black and white maps for combat. This ensures everyone knows exactly where they are without the visual clutter or lag of heavy VTTs. To keep us all on the same page, I’ve built a custom website called The World Binder where our lore lives, and I provide easy Google Doc templates to make your note-taking a breeze. I want our time at the table to be about the story and the laughs, not troubleshooting software! When I’m not in the Hells, I’m usually tinkering with my homebrew sandbox, The Isle of Hesperos, a persistent world out in the Trackless Sea where my long-term players leave a permanent mark on the map. I love meeting new players, whether you've been rolling dice for decades or you're just starting out. If you fancy a chat or want to see the World Binder, come say hello on Discord: Discord Tag: anyathegm Server Link: https://discord.gg/JRtTX5gdJQ

I became a GM because
...I was desperate to play Descent into Avernus, but I couldn’t find a single person running it. Instead of waiting, I stepped behind the screen to run it myself—and I never looked back. I discovered that I love the "behind the scenes" magic even more than being a player.
People are always surprised when I tell them
I actually run my games on a high-end laptop that I’ve custom-fitted with ChromeOS Flex. Most people expect a professional DM to have a massive, cluttered rig, but I’ve stripped my setup down for pure, distraction-free performance. It’s reliable, simple and fast.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Unscripted, Energetic, and Enabling. I’m not a polished voice actor or a rigid rule-bot; I’m a high-energy facilitator who thrives on the mess. I focus on keeping the game moving and saying "yes" to your wildest ideas.
How AnyaTheGM runs games
I run a player-led table where your choices genuinely reshape the world. I don't believe in railroading; instead, I provide the playground and let your ingenuity drive the plot. Bold, creative risks are always encouraged over playing it safe. If you love getting into character and doing voices, I absolutely love to see it! However, I provide a "no-pressure" environment where you can be as theatrical as you like, or simply describe your actions—whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

I deal with rules issues by...
...Prioritising the flow of the story and the "Rule of Cool." If a rule is unclear in the moment, I’ll usually make a common-sense call to keep the momentum going rather than pausing the game for ten minutes of book-flipping.
I once ran a session...
...where the party decided to adopt a group of zombie children instead of fighting them. I live for those "derailment" moments. Rather than forcing combat, we spent the session figuring out the logistics of undead childcare.
I prep by
...knowing the world like the back of my hand. After seeing four groups through to the end of Avernus, the module is basically hard-coded into my brain. I don't need a script or a rule-book to keep the story moving. No matter how much you try to "break" the game, I'm ready for you!
AnyaTheGM's ideal table
I’m looking for players who aren't afraid to take the wheel and drive the story off a cliff just to see what’s at the bottom. While I might "complain" when you derail my plans, the truth is I live for it—those unpredictable, player-driven turns are why I love being a GM. The vibe is tactical but relaxed. I provide a fast-paced, reactive world where your ingenuity is the main engine. If you want a table where your wildest ideas are actually encouraged, you’ll fit right in.

I love it when a player
...decides to ignore the "obvious" path and does something totally unexpected instead. I live for the moments where your creativity forces me to think on my feet. If you’ve got a wild plan that might just break the encounter, I’m the GM who wants to see you try it.
My perfect party mix is
A group of creative instigators. My perfect party is made of players who aren't afraid to take risks and test the boundaries of the world. I love a mix of people who lean into their characters and look for the most interesting—rather than just the "safest"—way to solve a problem.
My table is not the place for...
Egos or interruptions. I love it when you derail the plot, but I have zero patience for players who derail each other. My table is built on working together and ensuring everyone gets their turn to speak. If you can’t be kind and respectful to your fellow players, you won’t fit in here.
