About Mike

I'm a Forever GM that loves my job! I've been a full-time professional DM for several years now, running a variety of games, from D&D to Cyberpunk Red, VtM, and Lancer. I've been running games for more than a decade, in both private and professional environments, including large-scale games that range from local breweries to San Diego Comic-Con. So whether you want a DM for your home group or someone to challenge your company team-building party, I've got you covered.

I got started GMing...

The same way most people got started, I think. I wanted to play D&D, but nobody else would GM, so I took up the mantle and haven't been able to shake it since.

My favorite books are

Dresden Files, Dungeon Crawler Carl, and This Book Is Full Of Spiders (Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It)

My favorite shows/movies are

Too many to count. Movies: The Void, Deathstalker, Psycho Goreman, The Empty Man, The Endless, Gremlins, Tank Girl, Johnny Mnemonic, and countless others. Shows: Castlevania, Cowboy Bebop, Darker Than Black, Gurren Lagann, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, Supernatural, Gundam, Pantheon.

How Mike runs games

I'm very story-forward. I want to make my players feel like the main characters they are (within reason, of course). I love to put together tactical combat that challenges my players, but the most important thing is that we're *all* having fun.

Featured Prompts

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Robert Rodriguez with a hint of James Wan.

My games focus on...

The story comes first, and more important than anything is the player experience. I include backstories, motivations, and a number of other details that draw players into the experience and get them engaged in the game.

When it comes to voices

I try to do them all. Nearly every NPC I use has their own voice and personality, some of whom you'll like more than others...

Mike's ideal table

My ideal table is filled with players who take the game seriously, have interesting ideas for their characters, know the rules and mechanics without powergaming, and respect each other and the time we're all putting aside for the game.

Featured Prompts

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you love classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy, grim settings like Bloodborne and Dark Souls, or the over-the-top hopecore of the likes of Gurren Lagann, you've found yourself in the right place. These aspects are all molded into nearly every game I run.

I think metagaming...

Is necessary insomuch as it moves the story along and keeps the other players engaged. Metagaming for advantages or to be the "main character", however, is not okay.

My table is not the place for...

Any kind of hate or bigotry, munchkin-style powergaming, grognard murderhobos, or gimicky joke characters.
