About Billy

I have had a lifetime of interest in Dungeons and Dragons going back to the 90s as a teenager but didn't know where to go to play. Years later in 2021 I decided to look it up and found out how easy it was to get started with 5th edition. A year later I started GM-ing. My first campaign was a homebrew story. After that I started running published works. In 2024 I started Gm-ing Pathfinder 2nd edition. I am currently runnning 2 different in person D&D groups and looking to expand more into the professional realm. I love the idea of fantasy and magic in a medieval setting. I am lenient when it comes to the rules and have a few of my own for my tables. I am also as indicated by my name a Trekkie, but not exclusive as I enjoy Star Wars as well. My free time is usually spending time playing games, re-learning how to make them, and watching movies. The re-learning part is in regards to the fact I do have an Associates Degree in Game Design, but am severely out of practice and relearning those skills. I am open to all walks of life and expect my players to be as well. I will not put up with slurs or discrimination at my tables.

I got started GMing...

After leaving another game as I did not like the GMs game style. Between me and another player we got a group together, no GM set until we discussed our ideas. The other GM wanted to run one shots, I suggested a homebrew idea for a campaign. He liked the idea and I was elected to GM our sessions.

My favorite books are

Fantasy and Sci Fi. Favorite author is David Weber. Love reading Star Wars and Star Trek books.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Either playing video games or setting up my next game session.

How Billy runs games

I love roleplaying and storytelling. I use voices for different characters when I can. I try not to pull punches when it comes to encounters but have been known to from time to time. I will do as much as I can to involve my players in the stories and interactions. For the most part I am good at improving and will add to the story based off of my players choices even in official publications. Players actions should have consequences regardless of if it is bad or good. I love building maps for my campaigns and if one is not provided by the material I will use sites like Inkarnate or other similar software to create a map to use.

I once ran a session...

There is a festival going on and games to compete in. On of the competitions is to jump off a cliff into the ocean and avoid the rocks below. The cleric cast darkness as the last NPC went. They died. Next session we run the games are canceled because of this and my players plan to sell shirts.

Rules are...

Negotiable. As the great Gary Gygax once said, "The secret we should never let the gamemaster know is that they don't need any rules."

When it comes to voices

I try my best, but sometimes fail. I will try to do voices for NPCs, some may bother my throat, some may leave me to have to pause afterwards as they are nonsensical blatherings.

Billy's ideal table

Good question. My ideal table will always be one where everyone gets along and has fun. To pay attention to the story, to know the objective or who the BBEG is (if such a creature is known that is well in advance of the final confrontation), to interact with the NPCs that you must communicate with. But again, the most important thing is to have fun.

I think metagaming...

is against the rules. If you know something about a creature your fighting, pretend you don't know anything. I know for some encounters it maybe a repeat. I try not to run games others would know anything about, non-official publications (most of the time).

My table is not the place for...

Politics, discrimination, hate speech, bigotry, racism, bullying, or anything else that would make someone feel unwanted or unwelcomed.
