About me
I'm a 32 year old ex-middle school science teacher living in the USA, and I absolutely love Dungeons & Dragons. I've been playing the game for years now, and it was love at first sight. It is a game I truly think anyone can enjoy and get value out of. From the power gamers who want to crunch numbers and smash skulls, to the role players who want to step into another's shoes and be someone else, or even those that want to just sit back and enjoy the crazy ride. Outside of dungeons & dragons, I enjoy playing videogames, watching movies and shows, and having quality time reading with my cats Cake and Cinnamon. My favorite games are League of Legends, Satisfactory, Skyrim, Pokemon, Halo, and my current favorite Risk of Rain 2.
GM Style
First and foremost, I like to make sure to run a safe table where players can come to have fun and enjoy a game. The enjoyment of everyone is the prime focus, which sometimes means taking the less-optimal route, and sometimes means sacrificing character-narrative. That being said, I lean more towards the roleplaying side of the game. I do love combat and making combat dramatic, but for me combat is just another vehicle for great roleplaying! I definitely do character voices, worldbuilding, and prefer expeditious fantasy over nitty-gritty. Things like carry weight won't matter, until its a crazy amount (that huge gold statue won't fit into your pack, after all). Humor is similar, I like to make sure humor is worked into the gameplay, but also serious moments for real expression and emotion. I am open to homebrew, unearthed arcana, and any published WOTC material. I also have my own homebrew I work on as well, which my players are welcome to try out. There are only a few things I would say "no" to, and usually it is within normal reason. GAME PLATFORM NOTE: It wasn't an option below, but I usually do my battle maps in Photoshop, and share my screen over Discord. I have also used Roll20 before, if players prefer that. TIME/AVAILABILITY NOTE: I am available after 5pm to 11pm on weekdays, and much more open on weekends from 10am to 11pm (all times in US Central).

Game Master Reviews (13)
Has his stuff together. Maps are prepared detailed and are ready to go. He enjoys the game knows a lot about it so the flow is good and he doesn't need stop to look at rules and such. Keeps himself organized and keeps track of the details in the campaign. He was the reason I got into DnD in the first place, played once with another DM and it fell apart quickly, constantly looking up rules, wasn't engaging and felt like we were just rolling dice. Alec brings the roleplaying to this game and in truth its sorely needed to make the game. Overall a good DM again has his stuff together
Alec is a dedicated DM. I am about 3 months into my second campaign with him, so I have seen how he is able to mold his story telling and gameplay experience to fit the players he is DMing for. He starts with a survey to see what kind of adventure his players want. it covers everything from difficulty level to battle/RP balance, to how serious/funny to setting and type of story they want to play. From there he crafts a custom adventure that explores different parts of his self made world. Each campaign I have done with him has taken place in a different part of his world and I am more than a little bummed that my first group fell apart and I never got to see the end of our story. He loves to work with players to help them craft their personal story and fold it into both his world and the adventure at large. Probably my favorite part is knowing that we are helping to shape his world and that other adventurers may pass through towns or area's that we have affected, or travel to places that our backstories helped shape and flesh out. He makes great Battle Maps with several layers so that he can reveal areas as your characters encounter them. it makes for a very immersive experience. Battle and campaign difficulty are determined in the survey i mentioned above, but know that Alec has no qualms about killing player characters if you make stupid or foolish choices. He will happily tell you about the Jar of dead player names he keeps that is a testament to all the player characters he has killed. I'm still a little bitter that Kiba ended up in the jar... but that said, Alec did a good job giving Kiba a good sendoff and helped me work his quest into my next players story line. My overall experience with Alec has been great and I highly recommend him.
Alec was the first DM I had ever played D&D with. He was an incredibly patient teacher and dungeonmaster, open to helping new players find both the rules and their best ways of self-expression in the world of roleplaying. His world building and character creation is fantastic and entertaining. For both new players and tabletop veterans alike, Alec is a wonderful DM.
I have had the pleasure of participating in two campaigns of Alec Englund across the span of three years. In that time, he has continually maintained gripping and fantastic storytelling and NPCs all while keeping the story in the hands of the player characters. As a DM he is creative, punctual, reliable, and fun. As a person, he is relaxed and creates an inviting environment for all players. 9.9/10 needs more snacks
