About the adventure

Legends spoke of a city of glass. A fairytale kingdom filled with translucent beings of great wisdom. Its people appeared in tales as benevolent strangers offering wisdom and gifts, their home a refuge for those who sought adventure. Its streets were of sheer, clear diamond, its buildings of emerald with threads of inlaid gold, with pale ruby windows shining warm reddened light into every household. Their legends slip into a great many stories - but recently, a cache of documents has been discovered that suggests that they may have just been real - and that the City of Glass could be found again, with all the treasures that lie within. How much of the city's legends are truth, and how many are simply exaggerations of time? What treasures does it truly hold? What happened to its people, and most of all: Who had the power to steal an entire city - if it truly does exist - and why have they kept that power hidden for so long? The Stolen City of Glass is an original Dungeons & Dragons campaign, played with elements taken from the Numenera-related Arcana of the Ancients supplements. It blends sci-fi with high fantasy, and will lean more towards exploration, discoveries, puzzles and roleplaying - though there are a number of fairly unique combat scenarios to be found. I welcome both newer and more experienced players. The original campaign will run from 8-9 sessions, with an option to extend the campaign if players are interested. This will be a game that rewards player investment - the more you learn about the world you're in and the secrets it hides, the better. Seeking players that enjoy discovering the weird, the bizarre, and the unique sense of wonder that comes with diving headfirst into the truly unknown.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need a webcam, a mic, working audio, a Discord account, a Roll20 account, and a place to keep notes - either online or offline. Players do not need to have read the rules beforehand, though it would be helpful to have done so. A guide with the basics of D&D can be found here: https://dnd.wizards.com/how-to-play. It will also help if you know what kind of games you enjoy playing the most, and what kind of game you're looking for, to discuss during Session 0, so I know how to tailor the game for everyone's expectations.

What I provide

As a GM, I will bring my expertise in Dungeons & Dragons, as well as a working knowledge of Roll20. Roll20 includes everything you need to play D&D - dice, character sheets, maps & tokens, a compendium of rules and stat blocks for me to keep track of creatures. Maps will be a mix of basic terrain items on simple backgrounds, more detailed maps created wholecloth on Inkarnate, and theater of the mind. I've been playing & GMing D&D for several years now, and enjoy leaning on the storytelling aspects of it more than the rules-heavy nitty gritty. I enjoy weaving together multiple story threads, while still prioritizing simplicity for the player. As complicated as things may be in the background, I want my players to have a simple read on what's going on, and what's most important for them to know. I tend to do a lot of extra prep work just to make the gaming experience as streamlined as possible for players - within the constraints of D&D rules.

Gameplay details

Players can expect much in the way of exploration, discovery, and lore. Note-taking will be extremely helpful to fit the larger pieces of the game's puzzles together, but not an absolute requirement to keep the story flowing. Roleplay and NPC interaction is encouraged - and while there is combat to be found, there's also always a way around it, either at cost or with a clever solution.
