About the adventure

Humanity is on the brink of extinction, whether it wants to admit it or not. From birth, you have been raised to be one of Earth's saviors, a fact kept concealed from you. Now, finally, your life's purpose has arrived, regardless of your thoughts on the matter. With once theorized monsters finally making their way to Earth, slouching toward the city that you live in, you have little choice but to finally live up to what those around expect of you. Fight or let all of humanity be doomed. - Fight against horrific monsters, balancing going all out in your attack and keeping the city safe. - Uncover the mystery of Thunderguard 46, a secretive organization that has shaped your life since you were born. ----- Inspired by works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Getter Robo Armageddon, this custom campaign blends mecha action with elements of horror of all kinds. This is a universe much less developed technology wise when compared to Lancer's default space opera, however nearly all options available to players in Lancer are available here. This custom campaign uses the Lancer system for all mech related functions. It also utilizes the horror system Call of Cthulhu for nearly all pilot related functions.

About me

Hi there! I have been a game master for close to fifteen years now. In that time, I have run games in a variety of different systems and genres, both online and in person. Getting to explore the ins and outs of a new system is a particular joy, one that is overtaken by being able to collaborate with players and work together to tell a story we'll all remember. I generally consider myself a bit of a mega nerd. A lot of my childhood was spent reading things like “Star Wars: the Essential Guide to Characters” and other such books, and when I began to delve into the internet, reading various fan run wikis. Lately, Star Trek and Gundam have been by major nerd spheres of interest.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will go over most relevant parts of character creation during session zero, however players can do as much work on their characters as they want beforehand if they want. Material from all official sources is allowed, and third party material may be allowed if you ask. Bonds will not be used in this game. In addition to making your character in Lancer, you will also make them additionally in Call of Cthulhu. For all narrative purposes, Call of Cthulhu will be used, and for most purposes, anything to do with pilots will be handled in that system. Player characters will start at LL0.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will be expected to have the following: -A discord account -Decent Internet -A decent microphone -To be fairly audible and not have a ton of background noise Foundry will be used for all virtual table top purposes, so a computer that can access foundry will be needed. No accounts need to be made. Knowledge of either system is not required, just let me know, and I can take some time to go over the systems with you. This campaign is relatively atypical, so even for experienced players of either, it may take some time to get accustomed to.

What Char brings to the table

I have a fair amount of genre knowledge, and have years of experience as a GM. I tend to do some voices for characters, nothing professional by any means, but enough to distinguish between various characters encountered. Over the last two years, I have been delving into a lot of the history of the mecha-genre, and am fairly well versed in its various tropes, and a fair number of series in the genre. I also have a decently sized and accessible library of various token art for players to peruse to use for their mechs, and can provide resources to find art for player characters. Currently, all sessions I run are recorded. We use a discord bot to record them. When things are being recorded, it is very clear. Copies of session audio will be provided for each player's personal use, it is not intended for anything more than private re-listening to past sessions.

Homebrew rules

As stated elsewhere, this campaign uses both Lancer and Call of Cthulhu. In general this is comes into practice with Lancer being used for all things mech related, and Call of Cthulhu being used for nearly everything pilot related. While usually kept separate, there will be times we interface the two, usually if something happens to your pilot while controlling your mech.

Safety

How Char creates a safe table

We will go over all safety policies in session 0, and discuss if anything else needs to come into play, especially specific triggers that might come up. In being based on inspired by works such as Evangelion and using Call of Cthulhu, this game will lean into some horror elements, though I would not consider it to be primarily horror in nature.
