About the adventure
The Dragon Queen’s armies have returned. Across eastern Solamnia, villages burn, refugees crowd the roads, and an enemy long dismissed as legend marches beneath the shadow of dragons. In the fortified city of Kalaman, ordinary people are being pulled into a war that may decide the fate of all Krynn. You will begin as adventurers with personal ties, old loyalties, and unfinished business. Before long, you may become the thin line between a frightened people and total conquest. Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen is a dark, heroic fantasy campaign set during the opening of the War of the Lance. Expect desperate battles, military missions, ruined battlefields, dangerous journeys, political tension, and hard choices made under the pressure of war. Victory will not always mean defeating every enemy. Sometimes it means saving who you can, holding the line for one more night, or deciding what you are willing to sacrifice. I run Dragonlance as an immersive, character-driven world with respect for its lore, themes, and atmosphere. Your character will have a place in Krynn, connections to its people, and reasons to care about what is being lost. Roleplay, exploration, and combat all matter, with cinematic set pieces and tactical encounters balanced by quieter moments where friendships, rivalries, faith, and fear can shape the story. No knowledge of Dragonlance is required. New players will be taught the rules and introduced to the setting naturally, while experienced players will find plenty of room for meaningful character choices and strategic play. This game is for players who want to feel the weight of a true fantasy war, survive its darkest hours, and earn the right to be remembered as heroes.

About me
I’ve been professionally GMing since 2020 and have run multiple weekly games ever since. Over that time, I’ve completed multiple full-length D&D 5e campaigns from level 1 to 20, along with many shorter adventures, one-shots, and ongoing homebrew campaigns. I take pride in creating games that are consistent, welcoming, and memorable for the players who choose to play at my tables. My GM style focuses on character-driven storytelling, meaningful choices, cinematic encounters, and emotional payoffs that feel earned. I love giving players the freedom to shape the world around them, whether that means heroic triumph, tragic sacrifice, political intrigue, divine drama, or just a great rule-of-cool moment the table will still be laughing about months later. My first major campaign was a homebrew Greek mythology adventure, and that style of mythic fantasy has become one of my specialties. Over the years, I’ve refined that campaign into something I’m very proud of, while also running traditional high fantasy, high level, long-form campaigns with story arcs that focus on player character backstories. At my table, players can expect clear communication, respect for boundaries, reliable scheduling, and a GM who genuinely cares about making every session worth showing up for.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen after session 0 and before the true start of the game at session 1. Craft the character you want to play and I will help you fit that character into the setting so you get the most out of you backstory and build to enjoy the game! We roll for stats but I do best of two sets. Generally, I am on board with any official content published by WotC and happy to look at anything third party or homebrew.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Game chats happen on Facebook or Discord (whichever is preferable by the players). I run the video chat through Zoom and screenshare Talespire for battle maps, music, and Ambient Sound (Talespire is a 3D tabletop simulator). I also use Roll20 for handouts and visuals as well as DnD Beyond for character sheets (through content share you'll have access to most source and adventure books). No pricy subscriptions or purchases necessary.
What Ryan brings to the table
I strive to create a world that feels alive. Every NPC has their own personality, motivations, and voice, brought to life through accents, mannerisms, and roleplay. Whether you're bargaining with a merchant prince, making allies in the jungle, or confronting an ancient evil, I want every interaction to feel memorable and immersive. Player choice is at the heart of my games. Chult is an open world, and you're free to decide where to go, who to trust, and what goals to pursue. That freedom comes with meaningful consequences, however. The world will react to your decisions, and while there is always another path forward, time is not on your side. The Death Curse waits for no one. I generally run the game Rules as Written to keep things fair and consistent, but I'm always happy to reward clever ideas and cinematic moments with a healthy dose of Rule of Cool. Expect tactical combat that rewards teamwork, creative problem solving, and good planning. This is one of D&D's most dangerous adventures, and death is a very real possibility. In Chult, victory is earned, not guaranteed. Finally, I believe the best campaigns balance tension with levity. One session may have you laughing around a campfire with unforgettable companions, while the next has you desperately fighting for survival in a forgotten tomb. I'll come prepared with a deep understanding of the adventure, but I'm just as excited to throw my notes aside when your choices take the story somewhere unexpected. After all, the best moments in D&D are rarely the ones anyone planned.
Homebrew rules
Feat and ASI: On the respective levels where you are requred to take either a feat or 2 Ability Score Increases I say you take both! (But no more or less than 2 ASIs at level up, even if one comes from a feat you have picked.) Perfect Roll Critical Hits: When you score a critical hit, the second set of dice you would normally roll are considered perfect rolls! Example: your normal damage is a 1d6, on a crit you don't roll 2d6, you roll 1d6+6. Players can award Inspiration: If I miss a cool moment the players can elect another player to gain an inspiration once a session Meta Free Death Saves: You roll the death saves, but you share them privatly with me the GM. Logical Feats: You must take feats that make sense to your character. If you have never met a dragon you cannot take the Boon of the Chromatic Dragon feat, if you are playing in the Forgotten Realms setting you cannot take a Dragonmark feat from the Eberron Setting, ect...

How Ryan creates a safe table
Creating a welcoming and respectful table is one of my top priorities. Before the campaign begins, we'll have a Session 0 to discuss expectations, table etiquette, character creation, and any topics players would prefer to avoid. My goal is to ensure everyone feels comfortable and excited to begin the adventure. If anything during the game makes a player uncomfortable, they can message me privately or let me know in chat, and we'll immediately adjust without putting anyone on the spot. Open communication is always encouraged, and I want everyone at the table to feel heard and respected. The comfort of my players will always come before the game. I strive to foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where everyone can immerse themselves in the story and have fun together. Characters may die. But players should never feel punished. Lines: There will never be any Sexual Assault in anyway at this table and other dark topics will be withdrawn if not treated with respect at the table. Veils: Sex Scenes will always "Fade to Black".
