Save an idyllic town from evil goblins and eldritch horrors.

Phandalin is supposed to be a town where decent folks can raise their kids, but there is evil in the air, and their future is uncertain.

About the adventure

Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk is a published D&D adventure module. I like to start with a template and then let the players "color outside the lines." I treat the rules basically the same way. Grab a beverage. Grab a snack. Ignore that social media feed, turn off that mindless video game, and kick back on a Friday evening with some new friends. Let's slay a few goblins and have a few laughs in what is sure to be a memorable adventure. My goal for this game is to facilitate real human interaction and connection.

About me

I started playing and running TTRPGs in the early 90's and have never looked back. My favorite thing about TTRPGs is the human connection, especially in our modern social media driven world. My name is Bara, AKA Goblin Wench Games. I love playing D&D because it brings real life people together. I am very pro LGBTQ (as a LGBTQ person myself), but I am also a U.S. Navy veteran and work with conservative people. At the end of day, I believe in pluralism. You do you, life is hard, let's play a game.

Character creation

Creating your character

All Characters will be made in D&D Beyond, either on the app or the website. Once you are invited to the campaign you will have access to character options in the 2024 Players Handbook, and the Forgotten Realms Heroes of Faerun. We will do a free session zero and I can guide you through the process if you are new. For my more experienced players, here are the following options you want to select while making your character: SOURCES - 5.5e core - 5.5e expanded - NO other sources NO partnered content YES enable dice rolling NO optional class features NO customize your origin option. MILESTONE advancement type HIT POINT TYPE - Fixed USE PREREQUISITES option - YES for feats - YES for multi-class requirements YES show level-scaled spells YES encumbrance YES ignore coin weight Modifiers Top CAMPAIGN PRIVACY - Campaign Only ABILITY SCORE - Point Buy Method STARTING EQUIPMENT You can take the suggested starting equipment or buy your gear with the starting gold. Additionally, I allow characters to start with ONE free uncommon magic item (or an extra 200 gold to be spent on starting equipment. Don't forget to "equip" your gear on your character sheet after you have purchased it. DO NOT SELECT "CUSTOM BACKGROUNDS" I want everyone to choose a prebuilt/published background. However, everyone will get a free origin feat (see below). FREE ORIGIN FEAT After you completely make your character in D&D Beyond, you may add a free origin feat in the "manage feats" section of your character sheet. I can walk you through this in session zero.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to join my discord server for voice chat (required) and video (if you don't mind being on camera). Players will also need to join my D&D Beyond campaign and make their character there. I will provide links to the campaign and discord once I have a group. Players are welcome to start brainstorming about your character whenever of course. Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk is set in the Forgotten Realms. Players may be familiar with the setting from the Baldur's Gate video games. For those new to D&D, Forgotten Realms is a fantasy setting with Elves, Wizards, Sword Swinging Heroes, and of course Goblins.

What Bara brings to the table

I provide the D&D Beyond master tier subscription and my 30 years of DM experience. D&D is a game first and foremost and I try to keep it fun and casual. There are 3 pillars of tabletop roleplaying: combat, exploration, and role-playing. I generally balance the 3, but I lean a little more heavily into the combat part of the game. I lean a little towards rule of cool and keeping the game moving. I consider "Rules as Written" to be more of a guideline, but I appreciate the balance that it brings.

Homebrew rules

PERSISTENT HOUSE RULES 1) You gain heroic inspiration at the start of the session IF you participated in the last session. 2) IF you drop to zero HP, THEN you suffer one level of exhaustion when your HP is raised above zero. This rule makes combat and dropping to zero HP a touch more dangerous. 3) No multiclassing. 4) Encumbrance: cannot move if carrying more than 15 times your strength score in pounds. CHARACTER CREATION HOUSE RULES 5) Gain one free uncommon magic item or an extra 200 GP at character creation. 6) Gain one free origin feat. Add extra feat after character is created. 7) Must use published classes, subclasses, species, and backgrounds from core rule book, Unearth Arcana, and/or Forgotten Realms Heroes of Faerun book.

How Bara creates a safe table
