About the adventure

High atop a pillar of rock, a castle is momentarily silhouetted by a flash of lightning. Far, far below the castle lies a village resting in its shadow. To the west loom twin mountain peaks, a large lake nestled in their valley. Towers, ruins, and villages dot a landscape blanketed in mist-shrouded forests. Another flash of lightning reveals a tall man, seemingly carved from granite, as he gazes down upon a group of traveling adventurers as they enter his domain. Unseen by any but the wind, his lips twist into a sadistic grin. He has grown bored, but entertainment has finally arrived. The travelers receive many looks as they pass, most fearful, very few intrigued enough to approach. Where did they come from? How did they get here? What business do they have in Ravenloft?

About me

Good timezone ladies, gentlemen, and variations thereupon! I'm Mocha, known all over the interwebs as HoneyMocha. I hail from the Southern United States. I have been playing D&D for decades, DMing since 2020. I enjoy homebrew and world building, and can sometimes be called a Rule of Cool DM. I enjoy collaborative storytelling and do my best to include everyone at my table in building our worlds. **Do Not send a Discord friend request without a message first, it will be ignored, as stated in my Discord profile.**

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting Level: 1 Stats: Standard Array Character Creation: D&D Beyond digital sheet HP: TBD by group vote Leveling: Milestone Starting Equipment: Basic starting equipment, 2 common and 1 uncommon magic item (to be approved by the DM at Session 0), a roll on the trinkets table, 10gp 10ep 10sp 10cp You may show up to Session 0 with little more than the concept for your character, if you choose. Session 0 will take place over Discord, the link to which will be provided. I would very much appreciate if you do not look through the Curse of Strahd book ahead of time, to keep the game interesting. If you are new to D&D, D&D Beyond, or both, I am more than happy to walk you through the use of the website and character creation. The choices will be entirely yours; I will simply act as a guiding hand.

The current party

I will list pre-made characters here when they are ready.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Accounts needed: Discord, D&D Beyond There will be a Discord server for you to join. This is where we'll join voice chat and keep track of our PCs and notes. This is also where you will find the links to our safety tools. We will be using D&D Beyond digital character sheets and the D&D Beyond Maps VTT.

What Honey Mocha brings to the table

I'll tell you right out of the gate that I'm terrible with accents. I try, but I'm not very good. I do, however, make my best effort to give each NPC a unique voice, if not an accent. I tend to embrace the Rule of Cool more than Rules as Written simply because rules shouldn't get in the way of creative and epic moments. That said, my rulings are final, even after open discussion. I adapt my games to what my table wants. You want more combat? Fantastic! Let's do it. You want to work with heavy roleplay? Also fantastic! Let's get it. We are all working together to tell an epic and engaging story. It's not me vs you - I am always rooting for you to be victorious!

Homebrew rules

PvP must be consented to by all parties involved or it doesn't happen. Romance must be consented to by all parties involved or it doesn't happen. NAT20 Skill Checks do not automatically succeed. NAT1 Skill Checks do not automatically fail. A NAT20 in a group skill check counts as 2 successes. I allow rerolls of 1s when rolling new HP during level up. Healing Potions: If used as an Action, no need to roll for HP, you simply get the max. Critical Hits: A critical hit will award the max damage plus rolled damage. (Ex: If your weapon does 1d6+4 damage, on a crit you will do 10+1d6 damage.) Death Saves: For each time your PC drops to 0HP AFTER the first time per long rest, you will gain a level of exhaustion. Hero Points used in combat will become an automatic crit. A counterspell of a counterspell triggers a Wild Magic Surge, since we will be using 2014 rules. I have many other homebrew rules that can be discussed as they come up in game or during Session 0.

Safety

How Honey Mocha creates a safe table

I have a Lines & Veils document that will be linked in the Discord that must be filled out before or during Session 0. I also have an expectations form for players to fill out. X, N, & O's can be verbal or typed in chat. I prefer verbal as it is easier to keep track of. Aftercare will consist of checking in with everyone after the session to make sure everyone is still comfortable. Stars & Wishes will be used so that we can ensure that everyone is having a good time and adjust accordingly. **If at any time you need to step away from a scene, do not be afraid to say so. I will not judge you for it. If any other player does judge you for it, they will be removed from the table. ***As this is a horror campaign, my players' mental health and comfort is my #1 priority and I cannot keep you safe and secure if you do not speak up.
