A Dance of Deceit and Desire | Play by Post Romantasy Campaign!

Creating your character

We'll be using Avrae, a bot plugin for Discord, to manage rolls and stats (https://avrae.io/). To make sure Avrae can work with your character sheet, you will need to use DnD Beyond, DiceCloud, or a Google Sheet template. We'll start at level 5 for all characters, and roll stats to create a "group array". All official books for 2024 will be accepted; if you'd like to use a 3rd-party (homebrew) class/race/etc, please run it by me first so we can make sure it is in balance with the party and game. I'm happy to work with you to make your ideal character happen! Every player will have one-on-one time before the session starts to talk over backstory/character ideas, and to help put your character sheet together if needed. Every character should be tied to one of the Five Houses, have a clear goal as for what they would like to gain from the Festival, as well as a few allies/enemies that we can work into the game. We will work on all of that together! I'm excited to bring your character to life with you :D

Preparing for the session

This will be a Play-By-Post game, played asynchronously through Discord (using Avrae). This means that players and DM can post without a set time throughout the week - everything is at the pace that works best for all involved! The entire game is text/image-based - there will be no voice chat at any point in game. As the DM I do my best to respond to player contributions ASAP and push the story forward as needed. As players, you will be able to join at times that work well for you, at a pace that works for you as well. You do not need to have previous knowledge of how Avrae, Discord, Play-By-Post games, or even D&D and Good Society to join this game - I will guide you through every needed step! You are also free to roll using Avrae, your character sheet directly (if using DnD Beyond or DiceCloud) or even your own physical dice! You do not need to know Avrae, or any of the other tools. I can teach you. As long as I have access to your character sheet, you can roll using Avrae, Roll20, D&D Beyond, the in-Discord dice bot, or your own dice. Once you sign up, hop into the Discord and we'll start getting you onboarded. The game itself will start once everyone is ready, and no players will be charged until we begin in earnest.

What Buppy brings to the table

I'm excited for you to join my table! As a player, here is what you can expect from me as your Game Master: - Learning opportunities! Whether you're brand new or a seasoned veteran, there's always something new to learn. - A great focus on character backstory! I want your characters (and you as the players) to be truly invested. - Engaging and memorable NPCs, both as allies and enemies! - While the rules are in place for a reason, sometimes you want to do something that doesn't quite fit a specific rule. That's ok! I use what is called the Rule of Cool - in essence, we will find a way to make it work if it's at all possible!

How Buppy creates a safe table

Before we begin, we will take some time to discuss our Lines and Veils, which will also be covered in a shared document for all players. I want to make sure all players feel safe and welcome during play - it's ok for characters to feel scared or stressed, but the players should be having fun! At any point, players can message me to let me know if something is making them uncomfortable. I am not against stopping a game to make sure everyone is feeling ok before moving forward, and we can always retcon/skip forward/etc if needed. Finally, my messages are always open! Feel free to message me anytime to let me know if something didn't work for you during the game, and we can find a way to make sure those things don't happen in the future.
