About the adventure

Mammoth Crossing is starving. Outside your hide tents, the wind howls, and a catastrophic blizzard is just four hours away. To make matters worse, two of the tribe's children have vanished, their small footprints leading straight into the taboo, pitch-black depths of the Painted Hollow. There are no wizards coming to save you. There are no healing potions or revivify spells. Your best weapon is a fire-hardened spear, your highest technology is a burning torch, and your best spell is a plan. This campaign launches you into a brutal, beautiful, and deeply immersive prehistoric survival experience using a streamlined, gritty modification of the D&D 5e system. Your journey begins with a desperate rescue mission in the frost, but quickly spirals into an epic 3-day trek toward the frozen peaks where a mysterious "sky stone" shattered the mountaintop. To survive, your pack must hunt megafauna, negotiate truces with rival Neanderthal clans, and brave the unforgiving environment. Your actions here will dictate whether your tribe perishes in the ice or survives to become the revered ancestors painted on cave walls for the next 20,000 years. This game is explicitly built for tacticians, roleplayers, and survival enthusiasts who want a fresh, high-stakes break from high-fantasy tropes. The Gritty Survivalist: If you love tracking resources, managing environmental hazards like extreme cold and wetness, and feeling the tangible weight of every ration and torch, you will thrive here. The Team Player: Because there is no magic, characters cannot solo encounters. Success relies entirely on Advantage Stacking—setting traps, using the help action, flanking, and executing synchronized tribal tactics. Fans of Prehistoric Media: If you love The Revenant, Far Cry Primal, Alpha, or Horizon Zero Dawn (minus the robots), this atmosphere is custom-tailored for you. The Setting: A hyper-boreal Ice Age landscape defined by colossal glaciers, dangerous frozen rivers, untamed megafauna, and ancient cave systems breathing with prehistoric art. The Themes: Legacy, primal fear, human resilience, the balance between man and nature, and the absolute necessity of community. My GM Style: I run Rule of Cool, Story First fast-paced, high-immersion table where environmental tension takes center stage. I use evocative theater-of-the-mind alongside stunning visual battlemaps. Pacing: if tactical debate drags on too long, the environment reacts—the wind howls, the ice cracks, or a predator catches your scent. I reward creativity, lateral problem-solving, and playing like a unified pack rather than a group of independent mercenaries. Come ready to cooperate, adapt, and light the torch. Your legacy is waiting to be painted.
