About the adventure
The sleepy town of Phandolin rests on the bones of an ancient settlement and its people hold clues to far grander mysteries in the surrounding woods and mountains. Perhaps its not so sleepy after all? This is a Phandelver and below: The Shattered spire campaign where I will bring the small town of Phandolin to life as the eldritch secrets looming in its shadows slither into the light. Whether your character is a treasure hunter, an opportunistic mercenary, or an altruistic holy knight there is a place for nearly any character archetype to find a home in Phandolin. As a frontier-esque town thats trying to build itself up with danger surrounding it you will have plenty of hooks to build your characters off of and threats to keep them on their toes. This is an adventure that starts out standard fare but takes eldritch twists into far darker realms. In our free session 0 we will build our level 1 characters together and work on backstories as a group. Your characters can be interested in the ruins surrounding Phandolin or one of the various groups/enterprises with a vested interest in its success. All provide ample hooks and buy-in to have characters that will have tons to interact with and enjoy the module. I have all of the major books on DnD beyond so you can brew to your hearts content! Each of my campaigns has its own role locked section on my discord where I give you guys access to an out of session roleplay chat and Shared notes journal where you can discuss things together as a party whenever you want to either further your characters development, story, or just to kill free time between games!

About me
Howdy ya’ll! I’m Peter and I got my start playing tabletops with DnD 3.5e at a friends birthday party when I was 13 and I’ve been hooked ever since. From there I started playing years of pathfinder 1e with my online gaming friends and transitioned into dming because I loved the storytelling opportunities. Tabletop roleplaying games have always been about community, fun, and expression for me so I do my best to cultivate it in any play space. I believe the most important and fun aspects of tabletop roleplaying come out in the collaboration of everyone involved to advance the story; and this can only happen when everyone feels safe, respected, and like they are an equal part of the story. My whole philosophy as a GM is centered around keeping the story collaborative and fun for everyone involved. Creating investment with my players is key: This always starts with a session 0 where we get everyone on the same page for expectations. Players who join campaigns later will at the least get a quick one on one session 0 to prep. As for details about myself I am a non-straight neurodivergent man doing my best to turn my biggest hobby and passion into a job so I can share the things I love about it with others. When I’m not furthering that goal I am devouring my favorite media which includes everything horror and fantasy on my couch with a lap full of my elderly kitties and my partner by my side.

Creating your character
In session 0 we'll character build together. We're starting at level 1. I have 28 books on DnD beyond and content sharing so you will have access to nearly all of the character options available across 5e and 2024 rules sets. I am fine with characters blending across the rulesets, but Druids I ask use the 2024 class because of the better balancing for wildshape. I allow custom origins and in session 0 we'll discuss what method of stat generation we'll use as a group since I think all of them have merits whether we roll, do point buy, or the standard array. I'm even amenable to doing different ones based on what each of you want.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using DnD Beyond for character sheets/VTT and discord for chatting. Have an account for each and i'll send links as people join.
What Pert brings to the table
I'll bring characters to life and weave in plenty of nods/side stories for players backstories as much as they like to bring their characters to life in the world. If things begin to feel monotonous I'll take you all off the beaten path and sprinkle in side quests to keep things feeling fresh. Since this campaign slowly starts to turn down an eldritch horror direction I'll use my love and knowledge of the genre to slowly weave horror into the fabric of the story and create tense and creepy vibes. Years if Gming and game design gives me a good eye for balance and i'll keep encounters tense and interesting to feel like a grand adventure!
Homebrew rules
I don't have any specific major homebrew rules. I am open to considering some if in session 0 ya'll have ideas.

How Pert creates a safe table
I cover most things in session 0 and make a list of things people are comfortable/uncomfortable with and change my narration and descriptions to play up the horror without stepping on toes/comfort levels. I also check in at the end of every session and make sure my players know they can message me with any concerns during or after games. My players comfort and trust in me is integral to the types of games I want to run and the type of person I am. Use of X cards also ensures we have a backup in case anything makes anyone uncomfortable we can pause and navigate issues together even if someone forgot to mention a trigger in session 0.
