About the adventure
The Shackleton Expanse campaign will focus on the starter campaign published by Modiphius with a homebrewed expansion extending the story beyond the end of the published content. Character creation will begin in Starfleet Academy and the first session will establish the character through choices and roleplay as an Academy Cadet. Players will then begin the campaign as newly graduated Ensigns assigned to the USS Thunderchild, an Akira class starship featured in the published material. This campaign will focus on the players as a Lower Decks style game; with use of supporting NPCs to fill out the crew. Players will be able to play senior officers facing their own challenges, alongside their Player Character. The game will be beginner friendly, and based on the Star Trek Adventures 1st Edition ruleset.

About me
I am a veteran of 30 years of Table Top Roleplaying, Live Roleplaying, and Online play. I have recently stepped away from LARP, to focus on online gaming with friends. I am passionate about roleplay as an expression of storytelling and am seeking collaborative work with kindred spirits.

Creating your character
We will begin at Session Zero with the basics for a character. The first session will focus on guiding the players through their Academy years, following the character creation steps with the players taking the role of the Class of 2385. By the end of the Session, players will have completed characters that will follow on to the Campaign as newly commissioned officers in Starfleet.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will use Discord for voice, Play by Post and Dice rolls. Owlbear.Rodeo will be used for Maps and Dice.
What David brings to the table
I run a character-driven game where player choices matter and the world responds to what you do. Expect plenty of opportunities for roleplay, investigation, exploration, and creative problem-solving alongside meaningful combat. NPCs have their own personalities and motivations, decisions can have lasting consequences, and I’m happy to follow the party when you pursue an unexpected idea rather than forcing everyone back onto a predetermined path. Most importantly, I want players to have room to make their characters their own. Character backgrounds, relationships, ambitions, flaws, and choices will become part of the campaign itself. During character creation, engage with the other players and the world around you, and we’ll discover together where their story goes.
Homebrew rules
We will be using a modified character creation session, using the process outlined in the base rules with the optional rule to adjust character creation to reflect Academy training. Thus, all characters will begin as young officers, and begin the campaign as newly commissioned Ensigns.

How David creates a safe table
My tables use X/N/O's in Chat and Voice. I use the Luxton Technique - Group discussion of trauma triggers in Session Zero to establish comfort level and boundaries for the table. This discussion helps to inform our Lines and Veils. At the end of every session we will discuss the game and establish Stars and Wishes, Things that were very good, and wishes for specific things to occur in game.
