About the adventure
This is a curse of Strahd game! If you like gothic horror and classic fantasy action against the creatures of the night this is the game for you. The lord of Barovia is a calculating and bloodthirsty vampire lord ruling over a kingdom of endless decay who sees the party as playthings and takes an active interest in them; Harassing and testing them every step of the way. Whether your character concept is a valiant monster hunter, self-absorbed opportunist who just wants out of the mists, or an arcane scholar researching the origins of vampirism. The curse of Strahd opens many doors for meaningful roleplay and gritty combat encounters. In our free session 0 we will build our level 1 characters together and work on backstories as a group. Your characters can be interested in Barovia/Strahd or not since being invested in your life outside of Barovia means you'll have motivation to get back home. I have all of the major books on DnD beyond so you can brew to your hearts content! Each of my campaigns has its own role locked section on my discord where I give you guys access to an out of session roleplay chat and Shared notes journal where you can discuss things together as a party whenever you want to either further your characters development, story, or just to kill free time between games! Join me in helping weave a tale that ends in the sun rising over Barovia for the first time in centuries!

About me
Howdy ya’ll! I’m Peter and I got my start playing tabletops with DnD 3.5e at a friends birthday party when I was 13 and I’ve been hooked ever since. From there I started playing years of pathfinder 1e with my online gaming friends and transitioned into dming because I loved the storytelling opportunities. Tabletop roleplaying games have always been about community, fun, and expression for me so I do my best to cultivate it in any play space. I believe the most important and fun aspects of tabletop roleplaying come out in the collaboration of everyone involved to advance the story; and this can only happen when everyone feels safe, respected, and like they are an equal part of the story. My whole philosophy as a GM is centered around keeping the story collaborative and fun for everyone involved. Creating investment with my players is key: This always starts with a session 0 where we get everyone on the same page for expectations. Players who join campaigns later will at the least get a quick one on one session 0 to prep. As for details about myself I am a non-straight neurodivergent man doing my best to turn my biggest hobby and passion into a job so I can share the things I love about it with others. When I’m not furthering that goal I am devouring my favorite media which includes everything horror and fantasy on my couch with a lap full of my elderly kitties and my partner by my side.

Creating your character
In session 0 we'll character build together. We're starting at level 1, but your characters will be level 3 by the end of the intro adventure that lands them in Barovia and sets the tone for the adventure. I have 28 books on DnD beyond and content sharing so you will have access to nearly all of the character options available across 5e and 2024 rules sets. I am fine with characters blending across the rulesets, but Druids I ask use the 2024 class because of the better balancing for wildshape. I allow custom origins and in session 0 we'll discuss what method of stat generation we'll use as a group since I think all of them have merits whether we roll, do point buy, or the standard array. I'm even amenable to doing different ones based on what each of you want.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using DnD Beyond for character sheets/VTT and discord for chatting. Have an account for each and i'll send links as people join.
What Pert brings to the table
I will utilize my years of experience with horror and fantasy to blend them and create high tension encounters. As well as use my game design and Gming experience will cultivate in gritty combats. I'll open frequent opportunities for roleplay and stay flexible to further any storyline hooks you give me for your backstories.
Homebrew rules
I don't have any specific major homebrew rules. I am open to considering some if in session 0 ya'll have ideas.

How Pert creates a safe table
I cover most things in session 0 and make a list of things people are comfortable/uncomfortable with and change my narration and descriptions to play up the horror without stepping on toes/comfort levels. I also check in at the end of every session and make sure my players know they can message me with any concerns during or after games. My players comfort and trust in me is integral to the types of games I want to run and the type of person I am. Use of X cards also ensures we have a backup in case anything makes anyone uncomfortable we can pause and navigate issues together even if someone forgot to mention a trigger in session 0.
