About the adventure

A beinner friendly ,open, sand box sci fi campaign using the Mongoose 2e ruleset. If you love traveller and open world, theatre of mind gaming, with a focus on roleplaying, continuity and character driven storylines this game is for you. The campaign will be tailored for the player characters and your session zero will, in addition to establishing the player’s compact, will look at your character and look to establish a satisfying back history and motivations behind their presence in the Outrim. My gm style is respectful of the rules, but I will always look to keep things fun, fair and ‘reasonable’. Creative, clever and fun play will always be respected and ‘in character’ play and solutions will see more success than attempting rules exploits.

About me

Hi, I have been a Games Master since 1984, beginning my lifelong love of ttrpg’s and Gming with AD&D. I have run a great variety of games over the years, and am especially fond of D&D, Traveller, C&S, Cyberpunk, Twilight 2000, White Wolf games, Aftermath and Star Trek. I am a married father and grandfather. My hobbies have included active participation in martial arts, Hema, Bohurt, 15th Century and Viking reenactment, literature and film, and occasional swordpunk festivals. I enjoy motorcycling and have recently retired from full time work. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate (I worked within the criminal justice system). I am always happy to respond to enquiries if you would like to make contact.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be generated using Mgt2e rules. A free starter kit is currently available on drivethrough which will support generation of characters with the Scout background. A discounted pack is also available for Merchant careers. Either are strong background careers for this campaign for beginning Traveller players. I am happy to support players with character generation and will provide a free 1-2 hour session zero for all players signing up for the canpaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have access to discord, internet, microphone, pen and paper. Bring your enthusiasm, creativity and good humour. Be ready to enjoy yourself as part of a team of players.

What Scotty G brings to the table

The game will use Discord and voice, and will be primarily theatre of mind though I will often provide illustrations (of varying quality). Players are very welcome to provide their own character images, descriptions and illustrations, and for those who enjoy map making there will be opportunites to chart star systems. I consider rules a vital framework but common sense, flavour and ‘feel’ are equally important so I am careful to be reflective and flexible.

How Scotty G creates a safe table

Session zero will establish player preferences around content and tone. I like to offer an end of game wrapping up debrief and grounding to ensure everyone is ok.
