About the adventure
Tonight should have been unforgettable for all the right reasons. Stardust Carnival has come to modern Waterdeep for prom night: rides blazing with light, music rolling across the midway, and one last chance to laugh with friends before everything changes. Then silver fog swallows the exits. The lights keep shining after the city disappears. Somewhere beyond the tents, a stranger calls your name in a voice you recognize. When the Mists finally part, the carnival is goneand you are somewhere that should not exist. Welcome to Prom Night in the Mists, a Dungeons & Dragons horror campaign that begins with a familiar celebration and opens into the Domains of Dread. One journey might lead beneath the gaze of a vampire’s castle; another might strand you in a city of beautiful lies, a land besieged by the dead, a frozen realm of reckless science, or a rainforest where you are the prey. Each domain brings its own mystery, people worth protecting, and villain whose desires have poisoned the world around them. Finding a way home will take more than following the road back through the fog. You do not have to play a student. Your character could work at the carnival, run a game booth, sell tickets, provide security, perform onstage, accompany someone to prom, or simply show up to enjoy the night. Build someone with a reason to be at Stardust Carnival and something they care about losing. Your group will meet there, make choices together when the impossible happens, and decide what kind of heroes they become in a place that expects them to give up. Expect character-driven mystery, eerie exploration, tense choices, roleplay, and dangerous encounters alongside moments of friendship and hope. I enjoy letting players investigate, form alliances, take risks, and change the course of a story; there is no single right way to confront a nightmare. New D&D players are welcome, and I will help you learn as we play. We will set boundaries for horror together before the first session so everyone can enjoy the suspense. The music is still playing. Who will you be when it stops?

About me
I have always been creative, even before joining the Dungeons & Dragons community. I first became involved with the game in 2019. During the COVID pandemic, I was let go from my customer service position but continued working as a caregiver. In my free time, I searched for something meaningful to engage with and soon discovered Westmarch-style D&D servers via discord. This opened the door to a surge of creative character ideas, and I quickly Fell in love with the game. By 2021, my love for storytelling and worldbuilding naturally led me to step into the role of Dungeon Master. My DMing style leans toward realism, with a strong focus on understanding the players and their characters in order to provide them with immersive, often horror-inspired experiences. Over time, I have created numerous homebrew one-shots and narrative-driven settings for Westmarch communities. For me, the greatest joy of GMing lies in crafting stories collaboratively with players, blending their creativity with mine to create unforgettable adventures.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
**How should your players prepare?** Before the session, join the campaign Discord server and make sure you can access D&D Beyond and Owlbear Rodeo. Connect your D&D Beyond account to Discord so Avrae can use your character sheet for rolls. You can come with a character idea, but you don’t need to have a finished character or know the rules. We’ll get everyone ready before the Stardust Carnival opens.
What Ayon brings to the table
I’ll bring a horror story shaped by your choices, with mysteries to investigate, problems to solve, and dangerous encounters across Ravenloft’s Domains of Dread. I want players to take problem solving seriously: pay attention to clues, think through your options, and work together. Creative solutions can change the course of the adventure. I lean heavily into the Rule of Cool when an idea makes the game more exciting, though some rules will stay Rules as Written. I also use homebrew rules. Please read my table rules before we play; I’ll gladly go over anything that’s unclear. I’ll use Discord, D&D Beyond, Avrae, and Owlbear Rodeo to keep play organized and make the world easy to explore.

How Ayon creates a safe table
This is a horror campaign, so I’ll use a Deck of Player Safety before play to learn what each player wants excluded or kept off-screen. In Session 0, we’ll discuss the campaign’s tone, share boundaries, and make sure everyone knows they can speak up if a scene becomes uncomfortable. You never have to explain or defend a boundary. At the end of each session, I use Stars, Wishes, and Meteors: stars are moments you enjoyed, wishes are things you hope to see, and meteors are things that felt uncomfortable or didn’t work for you. You can share feedback with the group or privately. If anything comes up between sessions, you can open a ticket in Discord and tell me there. I’ll use that feedback to adjust the game.
