About the adventure
Ashes of Divinity: The Mortal Age is a dark fantasy sandbox set 1,000 years after the gods fell. Illvarra is a world of magitech, airships, haunted ruins, political factions, forgotten faiths, and nations trying to build a future from divine wreckage. The gods are no longer in control, but their scars are everywhere. This campaign is for players who enjoy exploration, roleplay, mystery, faction politics, dangerous combat, and making choices that have lasting consequences. You are not being pushed down a single story path. You can chase rumors, take jobs, investigate ancient ruins, build alliances, make enemies, uncover secrets, or get involved in conflicts much larger than your party. The world is also shared with other players and parties. Their choices can change factions, settlements, trade routes, conflicts, and opportunities you may encounter later, and your actions can do the same to them. Illvarra keeps moving even when your group is not in the room. Expect a mix of serious story, dark fantasy, strange magic, adventure, and moments of humor between the danger. If you like a world where your backstory matters, the setting reacts to you, and your party is free to decide what kind of story it wants to create, this campaign is built for that.

About me
I have always been creative, even before joining the Dungeons & Dragons community. I first became involved with the game in 2019. During the COVID pandemic, I was let go from my customer service position but continued working as a caregiver. In my free time, I searched for something meaningful to engage with and soon discovered Westmarch-style D&D servers via discord. This opened the door to a surge of creative character ideas, and I quickly Fell in love with the game. By 2021, my love for storytelling and worldbuilding naturally led me to step into the role of Dungeon Master. My DMing style leans toward realism, with a strong focus on understanding the players and their characters in order to provide them with immersive, often horror-inspired experiences. Over time, I have created numerous homebrew one-shots and narrative-driven settings for Westmarch communities. For me, the greatest joy of GMing lies in crafting stories collaboratively with players, blending their creativity with mine to create unforgettable adventures.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen during Session 0 so everyone can build their characters together, ask questions, and make sure the party fits the world and each other. We’ll be using the 2024 D&D rules as the main ruleset, with older 2014 material allowed when needed and approved. Characters will start at Level 3 and should be created through D&D Beyond. For stats, use Standard Array or Point Buy. If you want to use a species, subclass, background, or option from an outside source, just run it by me first so I can make sure it works with the setting. During Session 0, we’ll also go over your character’s home nation, important relationships, goals, and how they fit into Illvarra. You do not need a huge backstory beforehand just come with a character idea you’re excited about, and we can build the rest together.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the game, make sure you’ve joined the campaign Discord server and can access D&D Beyond. We’ll use Discord for communication, scheduling, handouts, safety tools, and rolls, while D&D Beyond will be used for character sheets. Please connect your D&D Beyond account to Discord so Avrae can access your character sheet and handle rolls directly in the server. You should also have access to Owlbear Rodeo, since that will be our main virtual tabletop for maps, combat, and exploration. You do not need to have a completed character before Session 0, since we’ll be building characters together there. Just come with a general idea of what you might want to play, a working microphone, and any third-party or homebrew options you want me to look over. Most importantly, come ready to collaborate. Session 0 will be used to connect your character to Illvarra, the rest of the party, and the campaign itself.
What Ayon brings to the table
I provide a character-driven, immersive game with a strong mix of roleplay, exploration, mystery, and combat. I use character voices when I can, ambient music and sound to help set the mood, and plenty of visual handouts, maps, and world lore to make Illvarra feel alive. This campaign is also a **shared sandbox world**. Other players and parties exist in the same setting, and what they do can affect the world around you. A faction another group helps, a town they save, a war they start, or a disaster they cause may change what your party encounters later. Your choices can do the same for them. Combat can be tactical and dangerous, but I don’t want every fight to feel like a math test. I generally follow the rules, but I’m willing to use the Rule of Cool when a creative idea makes the scene better without completely breaking the game. You can expect your choices to matter. NPCs will remember what you do, factions will react, locations can change, and your character’s background can become part of the campaign instead of just sitting on the sheet. Not every problem needs to be solved with combat. Talking, sneaking, bargaining, investigating, or doing something completely unexpected can work just as well. Above all, I want the game to feel collaborative. I’ll provide the world, characters, mysteries, consequences, music, maps, and opportunities, while you and the other players shape what Illvarra becomes.

Safety
How Ayon creates a safe table
so I’ll use a Deck of Player Safety before play to learn what each player wants excluded or kept off-screen. In Session 0, we’ll discuss the campaign’s tone, share boundaries, and make sure everyone knows they can speak up if a scene becomes uncomfortable. You never have to explain or defend a boundary. At the end of each session, I use Stars, Wishes, and Meteors: stars are moments you enjoyed, wishes are things you hope to see, and meteors are things that felt uncomfortable or didn’t work for you. You can share feedback with the group or privately. If anything comes up between sessions, you can open a ticket in Discord and tell me there. I’ll use that feedback to adjust the game.
