About the adventure
This is a Game where I’m using the Ghosts of Saltmarsh and supplementing with some homebrew and additions from Ravenloft to shift it in a darker and more horrifying direction. There will be themes of eldritch horror and nautical sub themes throughout. Saltmarsh is on the precipice of prosperity or madness and the players have the agency to tip the scales in tiger direction. Located between neverwinter and Luskan Saltmarsh has been a small, but profitable fishing community for centuries. Now a clan of Dwarves from neverwinter are attempting to get a silver mine operating in the nearby cliffs; which could bring unrealized riches to the town. As well as unwanted attention. Saltmarsh has long been a secret haven for smugglers and that could be in jeopardy if it becomes a bigger political player. Couple this with mysterious mists that has started coming every few weeks that stole the imaginations of the superstitious and we have tons of inspiration for backstories for characters. Whether you’re an aspiring smuggler, ex pirate, fisherman turned folk hero, or miner hopeful there are plenty of reasons to be attracted to Saltmarsh and explore different character concepts. In our free session 0 we will build our level 1 characters together and work on backstories as a group. Your characters can be interested in the mists that have been coming to Saltmarsh or be a local with inroads with groups/enterprises with a vested interest in its success. All provide ample hooks and buy-in to have characters that will have tons to interact with and enjoy the module. I have all of the major books on DnD beyond so you can brew to your hearts content! Each of my campaigns has its own role locked section on my discord where I give you guys access to an out of session roleplay chat and Shared notes journal where you can discuss things together as a party whenever you want to either further your characters development, story, or just to kill free time between games!

About me
Howdy ya’ll! I’m Peter and I got my start playing tabletops with DnD 3.5e at a friends birthday party when I was 13 and I’ve been hooked ever since. From there I started playing years of pathfinder 1e with my online gaming friends and transitioned into dming because I loved the storytelling opportunities. Tabletop roleplaying games have always been about community, fun, and expression for me so I do my best to cultivate it in any play space. I believe the most important and fun aspects of tabletop roleplaying come out in the collaboration of everyone involved to advance the story; and this can only happen when everyone feels safe, respected, and like they are an equal part of the story. My whole philosophy as a GM is centered around keeping the story collaborative and fun for everyone involved. Creating investment with my players is key: This always starts with a session 0 where we get everyone on the same page for expectations. Players who join campaigns later will at the least get a quick one on one session 0 to prep. As for details about myself I am a non-straight neurodivergent man doing my best to turn my biggest hobby and passion into a job so I can share the things I love about it with others. When I’m not furthering that goal I am devouring my favorite media which includes everything horror and fantasy on my couch with a lap full of my elderly kitties and my partner by my side.

Creating your character
In session 0 we'll character build together. We're starting at level 1. I have 28 books on DnD beyond and content sharing so you will have access to nearly all of the character options available across 5e and 2024 rules sets. I am fine with characters blending across the rulesets, but Druids I ask use the 2024 class because of the better balancing for wildshape. I allow custom origins and in session 0 we'll discuss what method of stat generation we'll use as a group since I think all of them have merits whether we roll, do point buy, or the standard array. I'm even amenable to doing different ones based on what each of you want.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We’ll be using DnD Beyond for sheets and Maps for the VTT so have an account on there. Then we are also using Discord for chatting during games and between so have that set up and I’ll send links to both as we get ready.
What Pert brings to the table
I love to focus on nailing themes in narrative play. Asking players how different descriptors make their characters feel and building a sense of the world through characterization of NPCs and logical encounters. I also have a blast doing game design and switching up encounters to make them more interesting.
Homebrew rules
I don't use any specific homebrew rules, but if ya'll have any you like i'm open to discussing session 0.

How Pert creates a safe table
I cover most things in session 0 and make a list of things people are comfortable/uncomfortable with and change my narration and descriptions to play up the horror without stepping on toes/comfort levels. I also check in at the end of every session and make sure my players know they can message me with any concerns during or after games. My players comfort and trust in me is integral to the types of games I want to run and the type of person I am. Use of X cards also ensures we have a backup in case anything makes anyone uncomfortable we can pause and navigate issues together even if someone forgot to mention a trigger in session 0.
