Creating your character

We will build characters on D&D Beyond using official 2014 rules for races and classes. For stats, we’ll be using Point Buy. The campaign will take us from Levels 1 to 8, kicking off right at Level 1!

Preparing for the session

Character Management & VTT: We’ll use D&D Beyond for our character sheets and Roll20 as our virtual tabletop for visuals, maps, and tokens. Extension: To connect the two, please download the free Beyond20 browser extension for your preferred web browser. This automatically sends your attack rolls, skill checks, and spell saves directly from your D&D Beyond sheet to the Roll20 chat in real time. Voice Chat: We will be using Discord for all voice communication during sessions.

As a storyteller DM, my goal is to deliver an immersive, cinematic experience that feels like a living, breathing world. Here is what you can expect at my table: Production Value & Atmosphere: I provide full visual and audio immersion using high-quality maps with dynamic lighting, curated ambient music, and soundscapes to set the mood for every scene. Roleplay & Narrative: I bring NPCs to life through custom voice acting and rich, narrative-driven dialogue, focusing heavily on character depth and collaborative storytelling. Rules & Play Style: I use Rules as Written (RAW) as a consistent baseline—which keeps mechanics fair, structured, and easy for newer players to navigate. However, I fully embrace the Rule of Cool when players come up with creative, inventive ideas. If you can think of a compelling, cinematic action, I’ll work with you to make it happen. Gameplay Balance: Expect a fast-paced blend of both high roleplay and high tactical combat. You'll get plenty of deep character moments and story choices, balanced by challenging, high-stakes battle encounters. Ultimately, I aim to run a balanced, imaginative game where your player choices genuinely shape the story, backed by all the visual and auditory bells and whistles to make it feel unforgettable.

Homebrew rules

Level 1 Critical Hit Protection To respect the time and effort you invest in creating your characters and to prevent accidental "one-shot" deaths, enemies cannot score critical hits against players at Level 1. Hits will deal standard damage instead. This mitigates the extreme lethality of early-level combat while you get your footing. I heavily focus on tailoring creature stat blocks to fit the table, adjusting HP, AC, abilities, and damage to perfectly match the party's size, composition, and tactical style—meaning relying on memorization of the Monster Manual won't be needed at all, ensuring every single encounter keeps players guessing while striking the ideal balance of challenge and fun.

How Falafel creates a safe table

Creating a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment is essential so everyone can relax, have fun, and fully engage in the story. Here is how safety is handled at my table: Session 0 & Setting Expectations: Session 0 is our foundation. We will go over both player and DM expectations, review safety tools, and walk through our Lines and Veils together to establish clear boundaries before dice ever hit the table. Expressing what we want and need from the game from day one is imperative. Open-Door Policy & Digital X-Card: Communication doesn't stop after Session 0. My door is always open—whether you need to pause during a session or message me privately about a concern, boundary, or rule adjustment at any point in the campaign. For real-time safety, you can always send me a quick direct message or flag an X, N, or O in chat. Proactive Aftercare: Roleplay can get intense! If a session touches on heavy themes, emotional character beats, or intense narrative moments, I practice proactive aftercare and will reach out individually after the game to check in, chat through how you're feeling, and ensure you felt supported. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure you feel respected, heard, and comfortable so we can tell an incredible story together.
