About the adventure

Citizens of Elturel are bathed in the light of their two suns. One sun is shared with all of the peoples of Faerun. However, Elturel's second sun, named The Companion, shines only on the faithful, only on the steadfast and only on the sons and daughters of the Elturgard. The Companion, a divine gift, a never-waning celestial answer to the devotion shown by the city's High Overseer, Thavius Kreeg, has protected Elturel for almost 100 years. The preparations are well underway for the celebration of a lifetime. The Companion's centenary is upon us. While in the shadows, devilish contracts have been signed and souls traded for power. Unfortunately for Elturel, a century-long conspiracy is coming to fruition. This adventure will start at level 2. This game is open to all and requires only access to Discord and DnD Beyond to play.

About me

Hi Team, My name is Doug and I am an avid D&D player and DM. I just can't get enough of it! I'm originally from England, but I have been living in New Zealand for the last 16 years. I was first introduced to AD&D in the early 90s through a school D&D club. I stopped playing for many years but returned to it (like many of us) during the pandemic lockdown - what a saviour! For the last 5 years or so, I have been playing and DM-ing as much as I can. I currently run two in-person games per week and I play in a another weekly game. I'm fortunate enough to be playing my fourth campaign with the same core group of friends (we even finished two of them!). I tend to run amended published D&D 5e/5.5e adventures. I do a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure that I am happy with the story before running the game.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be creating your character via DnD Beyond during a free session zero. Feel free to come to the session with some ideas, but try to keep an open mind and be ready to compromise. We will use the point-buy method for stats and we will use the 2024 ruleset primarily, but I'm open to discussions. This campaign focuses on the fates, lives and afterlives of the people of Elturel. So, a strong tie to the city and its people will be a key aspect during character creation.

The current party

You will be uncovering corruption, deciphering mysteries and combating the forces of evil in all their guises.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please ensure that you have a reliable internet connection and access to Discord and DnD Beyond. Ideally you will also have a quality mic and use of webcam is optional.

What Doug brings to the table

You will have access to a Discord server for chat, check-ins, aftercare, feedback, handouts and other info. We will be using DnD Beyond VTT for maps etc, so no additional platforms will be necessary.

Homebrew rules

I have a plethora of homebrew rules that I like to pick and choose from, depending on the campaign and the group. I am also always keen to add to it with any great ideas you have. Either way, we will discuss these during session zero.

Safety

How Doug creates a safe table

We will use Session Zero as our starting point for safety topics and tools. You will all receive a copy of our "Care & Safety" agreement following that session. During sessions, we will use the X, N, O system to direct any contentious topics or scenarios.
