About the adventure
Visit Beautiful Barovia! Where every vacation lasts a lifetime. Looking for an unforgettable getaway? When the local carnival rolls into town, why not leave your worries behind with games, laughter, and sweet treats? After all, nothing bad ever happens at a carnival. Soon you'll discover the hidden gem of Barovia; a quaint mountain valley wrapped in perpetual cloud beneath the watchful protection of its beloved ruler, Count Strahd von Zarovich. Whether you're wandering picturesque forests, mingling with colorful locals, or taking in one of our many lively village festivals, every day promises a new adventure! Our charming countryside is home to fascinating wildlife, historic ruins, and friendly spirits just dying to meet new people. Of course, some visitors become so enchanted by Barovia that they simply never leave! Your stay includes the following exciting elements: βοΈ Predictable weather (No sun = no sunburn) π Unique local festivals (Attendance strongly encouraged) πΊ Friendly* wildlife π· Unlimited local wine π° A strikingly handsome bachelor who personally oversees the realm π£οΈ A permanent escape from the stresses of your old life π» Complimentary ghost sightings β°οΈ Exciting nightlife β€οΈ The chance to catch the Count's eye Barovia: Come for the adventure Stay because you don't have a choice *Friendly is a matter of perspective. The Barovian Tourism Board assumes no responsibility for bites, curses, lycanthropy, vampirism, hauntings, mysterious disappearances, involuntary festival participation, or eternal imprisonment within the Mists. Curse of Strahd, the most popular published adventure of all time, has been rewritten and rereleased so many times it's hard to keep track. So what's one more? With an expanded main storyline and character secrets that tie the adventurers to the main plot, this retelling of an old classic should keep you on your toes. Expect horrifying descriptions, morally grey choices, and unexpected laughs as you see if you have what it takes to escape Barovia and maybe even end Strahd for good once and for all. Curse of Strahd is a gothic horror story that does not guarantee a happy ending. This is not a typical heroic fantasy, sometimes the good ending is the fact that you survived. This adventure touches on many uncomfortable topics such as: cannibalism, child death, torture, and graphic violence. Please be sure to check the full list of content warnings below. That being said, you have to have good times to highlight the horror. There will be a decent amount of comedy and wacky parts to our story, no one likes dark and dreary all the time. The first thing the party will decide is the flavor of horror as this is a horror campaign: Tucker and Dale vs Evil (more comedy, some horror) Cabin in the woods (equal parts both) Scream (mostly horror) Hereditary (all horror) ππππππ: βοΈβοΈβοΈ ππππππππ: ππππ πππππππππππ: πΊοΈπΊοΈπΊοΈ πππππππ: π§©π§© ππππ πππππ: ππππ

About me
Just your average nerd trying to play more d&d. Have you ever had a friend be volun-told to DM a game? That was me. But then I loved it, so here we are. I enjoy puns, silly side plots, and trying to not laugh when my players come up with wacky ideas like drowning the ogre using an immovable rod. I like to run small tables (3-4 players) as I feel it keeps combat quick, let's everyone shine a bit more in the spotlight, and keeps the stakes high. It hits a lot differently when 1 of 6 characters goes into death saves vs 1 of 4. I run 5/5.5e content and run games RAI (Rules as intended) or ROC (Rule of cool). Occasionally I dip my toe into Call of Cthulhu or other systems. I do use supplemental material to add in or take things out to make the game run in a smoother/more exciting way. So even if you've played a module before, it'll be different this time around! I've currently run: Curse of Strahd π§ π©Έ x1 Tomb of annihilation π¦π΄ x4 Lost mine of Phandelver β°οΈπ‘οΈ x1 Out of the Abyss ππΏ x5 Storm King's Thunder π©οΈπ x1 Wild beyond the Witchlight π π§π½ x4 Dungeon of the Mad Mage β°οΈπ§πΌ x3 Vecna - Eve of Ruin ποΈποΈx3 I have wrapped up the above games in 6-12 months (Curse of Strahd lasted 15 months, Mad mage is still ongoing but will likely last about 2.5 years) If you are looking for a DM for a corporate event, message me for prices. I've done both entertainment and team building events. πBtw the banner pictures are art that a player did for the various shenanigans that happened over a few campaigns. Creating your character
Characters will be created during session zero on DNDBeyond. Before session zero, have an idea of the type of character you want to play. You will be given a character primer with some information and options for you to choose from once you sign up (to tie your character to the story better) We will be using the Core rules and the Ravenloft setting book as well as the Pugulist class from Sterling Entertainment. Due to the spell changes of a domain of dread and the type of creatures you will face in this adventure, many core abilities of the following classes/subclasses will be affected at the start of the campaign. Playing these classes will be similar to hard mode in a videogame (you are welcome to the challenge if you would enjoy it though!). Zealot Barbarian Cleric (all subclasses will be affected at the start, especially Light domain) Circle of Stars Druid Paladin (all subclasses will be affected at the start) Archfey, Celestial, & Undead Warlock Illusionist Wizard Street Saint Pugilist Why are these classes 'hard mode'? Well, as with many domains of dread, there are spell limitations. There may be ways to overcome these limitations later on in the campaign, but at the start there will not be. What spells are affected? Well, if you were an all powerful vampire lord, which kind of magic would you stop from working in your world? Available Species: Aasimar, Dragonborn*, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Goliath*, Halfling, Human, Orc*, Tiefling* *These species are considered strange by the local population and they will react to that fact. Tieflings and Dragonborn will have an especially hard time gaining trust. If this would be annoying for you to deal with in every new settlement, I suggest choosing another species. (Becoming a Lupin, Dhampir, or Reborn are possible later in the campaign) The following feats will be allowed beyond the core rule book: Origin feats - Sharp eye, Survivor General feats - Cold Caster, Genie Magic, Street Justice
Current line up: Aasimar Artificer, Gnome Rogue, Tiefling Ranger This group has elected for the "Cabin in the woods" mix of horror and comedy
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need accounts for Discord, Roll20, and Dndbeyond. The free accounts are fine. You'll need a microphone as well. Webcam is not needed but is a plus, I play with mine on as long as other players do as well. Plus it's more fun to reactions during dramatic moments.
What Belle brings to the table
Creepy music, brutal descriptions, and terrible voices to set the tone. Intricate maps for combat/dungeon exploration, theater of the mind splash pages for role play & travel sections.
Homebrew rules
*Action to drink a potion is full healing, bonus action is a roll. *Death saves are NOT public to keep up the tension *Spell scrolls - Can be used by anyone as a one time use spell. Takes an arcana check of 10+ spell level unless you know the spell. *Almost dying is a doozie - Dropping into death saves takes a toll on your mind and body. Your Death saves will reset after a short rest. *Desperate Measures - These may only be used once you are bloodied (Β½ health). You can pre-fail death saves in exchange for bolstered abilities. These death saves will also not reset until after a short rest. In exchange for 1 pre-failed save you may: Immediately take dash and disengage as a free action Add +5 to a d20 roll you just failed Reroll a failed attack roll For 2 pre-failed death saves you may: Turn an attack roll that just hit into maximum damage For 3 (meaning if you hit zero it results in instant death) you may: Immediately take another attack action or magic action Immediately regain 1 expended spell slot of level 1-5.
