About the adventure

Whether you've played before or are brand new to D&D, this adventure is perfect for you! A classic D&D module that was converted from 3.5e to 5e. It's ripe with warring factions, memorable NPC's, Dungeons, Dragons, Kobolds, Goblins, and Rodents of Unusual Size! We go from the bustling city of Waterdeep, and travel to the outskirts of the Neverwinter Woods to the small village of Oakhurst. There we speak with the villagers and learn about the missing adventures, as well as experience the Summer Solstice Parade! I am looking for 6 Players of all experience levels. We start at Level 1, and will end at Level 4. I use Milestone leveling for a more cinematic experience, and you will be playing Heroes, not Commoners. Your Characters will be exceptional! I hope you're ready to have some fun, and to possibly learn a thing or two.

About me

Waddup Folks!? My name is Rich, I go by DM Rich. I've been playing and DMing for 38 years! Started with 1e and jumped into 2e as a youngster then fully embraced 3/3.5e as a young adult. Now I play 5/5.5e and I love it! The simplicity helps to entice new players, and I absolutely LOVE playing with Newbies as well as Veteran Players!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account, and Fantasy Ground Unity VTT. Both of which are FREE. You will need to have FGU fully updated to the most current version. You can find me on Discord under the handle "waddupitsrich" Once we have been connected through Discord, I will direct you to the Fantasy Grounds server. You are more than welcome to create your Character in DnD Beyond, Pen and Paper, or on Fantasy Grounds if you have it already, and we will transfer them into my campaign during Session 0. Again, Session 0 is FREE.

What Rich brings to the table

I have been playing and DMing D&D since 1st Edition. I played 2nd Edition as a kid, and then 3/3.5 Edition as a young adult. I picked up 5e a few years ago and haven't stopped since. My playstyle is fun focused. I am a visual and logical DM. If it makes sense, then I'll allow it. If it doesn't make sense, but you can convince me why it should work, I'll most likely allow it. I do say No to things that either do not make sense or are just way outside of the Ruleset. Rule of Cool is almost always allowed. As stated in Character Creation, you are playing Heroes, not Commoners, so your stats should be anywhere between 9-18 base with a 20 starting stat possibility depending on Race/Species/Background Ability Stat Increase (ASI). Your HP will be MAX HP for all levels. I do this so that I do not have to pull punches. If your Character dies, it won't be due to low HP rolls. I cannot predict our die rolls. The dice giveth, and they dice taketh away. Your gameplay and combat strategies can and will determine whether your Character survives. I use Fantasy Grounds Unity and have most of the Character Creation options available. FGU VTT is Free for everyone, but you will need a computer to run it. Unfortunately, Tablets cannot be used for FGU VTT. It only supports Windows, Mac & Linux. I am a Voice Artist, and I do many different NPC voices, so you will get to meet a plethora of fun and intriguing NPCs and Creatures throughout the campaign. I use Voicemod app, for any voices I cannot do, which is few and far in-between. I prefer to use my own voice whenever possible. I run a Syrinscape bot through Discord for ambient music and sound effects. I also run a Transcription Bot to keep track of every session and track the transcripts into a specified Discord channel directly linked to each Campaign. It's not perfect, but it's getting better with every update. I use OBS for video display, and I have scenes set up to show NPC images and visual backdrops for full immersion. All of which is displayed through Discord Voice/Video. As an Actor and Voice Artist, I bring my NPCs and Monsters to life! I try to make the game feel as real as possible. If you do not describe your attacks in combat, I will! I'll make them so visual that you can see it in your mind's eye. I like to describe everything as if you're reading it from a book or watching it on a screen. My goal is to make every moment as fun and memorable as possible!

Homebrew rules

I have a TON of Homebrew rules. My reasoning is simple. It just makes more sense than RAW and is way less restrictive. Again, you are playing HEROES, so I like to make sure it feels that way. Here are as many of my Homebrew Rules as I can think of at this time (excluding character creation): • Criticals are MAX+Roll, meaning you take the maximum possible, and add your roll to it. This includes all ability/feat bonuses. • Fumbles get a Recovery Check, which is a DEX check DC10. Failures follow a Fumble Table and Recovery just loses the Attack. • Cantrips - If you use your Action to cast a Cantrip, then they get full scale damage. If you use a BONUS ACTION to cast a Cantrip, then it only uses the base damage (1d Damage). YES, you CAN cast a spell and follow that up with a Cantrip, or cast a Cantrip with an Action at FULL scale damage and follow that up with another Cantrip at base damage. Pew Pew! • Bonus Actions can be any attack, but if you do not have a feat that allows the Offhand use, then the damage does not gain your Ability Bonus. This includes, but is not limited to: Daggers, Shields, Headbutts, Punches, Kicks, Etc. • Using your Action to drink a Healing Potion grants FULL HP, but using a Bonus Action requires a roll for HP. • Reactions - If hit with a Melee attack, you can use your Reaction to either Block/Dodge or Counterattack. If any enemy hits you with a melee attack, you can choose to use your Reaction to Block/Dodge with a DEX check against the Attacker's attack roll as the DC. A success halves the damage. If you have a feat that allows for this already, then you can avoid ALL damage. If any enemy hits you with a melee attack, you can choose to take the damage and use your Reaction to Counterattack, which gives you 1 free attack. If you have a feat that allows this already, you can use your full attack action. • Death Saves - When your character drops into Death Saves, they are 'Bleeding out' and can still interact with the Party with dialogue. You go unconscious when you have 1 Death Save left. • Flanking gives Advantage to your attack roll. • Unseen/Surprise attacks have Advantage on your attack roll. ** Monsters with an above average Intelligence may or may not get to use these Homebrew Rules as well ** Please remember that this is a game, and we are all here to have FUN. I add Homebrew Rules that focus on the fun and add a cinematic element to gameplay.
