About the adventure

Yo-Ho Yo-Ho, a pirate's life for you? Survive a shipwreck and learn the secrets of the strange island you find yourselves marooned on. Upon unlocking the power that hides within the mysterious structure at the center of the island, the rest of the world will open up to you for exploration. An oceanic world, Noviata is mostly open oceans with massive sea monsters inhabiting its depths. Those living on Noviata are either settled on the small landmasses on the surface or, if they can breathe underwater, live within the protection of the reefs near the plethora of islands that dot this world’s surface. While Noviata has many islands, the largest landmass is Cynosuria Isle, considered the “center” of Noviata. The open oceans are as dangerous as they are beautiful. Massive sea creatures dwell within the vast expanse of Noviata’s seas. Some of these creatures are malevolent entities that take great pleasure in sinking ships and drowning sailors. Others are more benevolent, allowing creatures to take brief respite upon their bodies before they shove off to sea again. And some are just hungry…

About me

I've been playing D&D and other TTRPGs since I was in middle school. I have been running games since college, starting with a Star Wars-skinned D&D 3.5 game. I enjoy helping new players find things to love about TTRPGs, bringing veteran players a fun experience, and ensuring that everyone has a memorable adventure. I have run multiple "D&D 101" games that allow new players to dip a toe in without committing to a full campaign. I am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, a huge Star Wars fan, and an animal nerd.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start the campaign at level 2 using the 2024 Rule Set as available* Stats can be rolled manually on DNDBeyond. If two scores below 10 are rolled, you may reroll the entire set. Character Creation will occur on DNDBeyond, which allows for content sharing, so no need to purchase any yourself. *If a species and subclasses don't mesh well with the 2024 rules, I am more than happy to work with you to figure out how to create the character you envision.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A link to the DNDBeyond Campaign page will be provided for character creation and management. A link to the Discord Server will be provided for communication and video chats.

What Max brings to the table

I integrate character backstories, even in one-shots, into the storyline. I run heavy RP stories primarily with some combat scattered into it. Character voices will be utilized (I hope you enjoy the attempt) Any combat will lean toward the "Rule of Cool" with the Rules as Written being used more like a set of guidelines.

Homebrew rules

Potion Drinking: Drinking a potion yourself is a bonus action; feeding a potion to another character is an action. Crunchy Crits: When you score a critical hit, you maximize your damage dice + modifiers and then roll the damage dice again Healthy Living: All players may re-roll any 1s when gaining HP during level ups
