About the adventure
In Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, the characters experience the magical scars left behind by the death of dragons. Faced with the evil schemes of one living dragon and the righteous anger of another, they’ll have the chance to explore whether peace between the feuding dragon families is possible—or if they must resort to violence to resolve the conflict on this isle. A thrilling tale for new and experienced players alike, this epic adventure explores all the mechanics of D&D in an approachable format filled with mysteries to solve, action, and adventure! Even as the story unfolds on Stormwreck Isle, something larger and far more sinister is brewing, and this campaign can set up a continuing campaign following the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space storyline! Using the free Above VTT platform, you'll enter a world of carefully curated visuals and immersive audio that will transport you directly into the adventure! There will be plenty of room to learn and explore combat mechanics and as much role-play as you are comfortable with.

About me
I began playing D&D 5e in early 2022 by GMing the Dragons of Stormwreck Isle starter set for my kids, who were 8, 12, and 14 at the time. I was immediately hooked and started running two other games for friends of mine who were brand new to D&D. I brought one group through the Lost Mines of Phandelver before launching them into a new campaign in the Spelljammer Adventures in Space module, and I'm nearing the four-year anniversary of a Phandelver and Below campaign. I'm also a player in an online game using the Critical Role Call of the Netherdeep setting, and my Spelljammer campaign is a mix of in-person and online sessions. I have experience as both a player and a GM with AboveVTT and Discord, and I love to put the VTT to use with great maps and digital tokens!

Creating your character
Premade level 1 characters are available, or you can create your own using the campaign link you'll receive once you join. This campaign can be self-contained or can be a launching point for Spelljammer: Adventures in Space. Almost any character concept can be accommodated, but we can work together on anything particularly weird. For brand-new players, I recommend using (or adapting) one of the premade characters, but other options are available depending on player experience. Character builds and backstories will be finalized during a free Session 0.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
An active account on dndbeyond.com is required for character creation. Players will also need the AboveVTT plugin (I recommend Chrome or Firefox) in order to view and interact with maps. Voice and Video chat will be handled via Discord
What Matt brings to the table
I love introducing people to D&D and aim to provide an immersive experience with great maps, character voices, and ambient music and sound effects. Rules as Written is the starting point, but I'm always willing to make judgment calls and bend rules for creative ideas. With my help, you will fall in love with this game by the time our story resolves!
Homebrew rules
Modified critical hits: Maximum damage + rolled damage (applies to enemy attacks as well) Expert strikes: If an attack beats an armor class by 10 or more, it deals extra damage that scales as we level If you take a healing potion as an action rather than a bonus action, you receive the maximum possible healing (this applies when taking a potion out of combat as well).
