About the adventure

The world of Harrow’s Nest is a tapestry of kingdoms bound together by a mysterious force known as the Wave. The Wave is magic itself, shaping the world in ways both seen and unseen. Power is fragmented –– shaped by rival kingdoms, dangerous trade routes, and a deep divide between those who believe in the old ways and those who only seek progress. Yet one truth remains constant: the Wave touches all. And it is waiting to be tapped by those bold enough to wield it. The kingdom of Fairburn is in turmoil. Lady Eleyna Grey, daughter of Jarl Harfinson Grey and heir to the throne, has gone missing. No one knows where she is or who might be responsible. Tensions are rising. The Jarl’s soldiers scour the country, but with each passing day, whispers of sabotage grow louder. Meanwhile, you sit in one of Fairburn’s cells, imprisoned for crimes you may (or may not) have committed. The air is thick with rumors. Guards mutter about the princess’s disappearance. Prisoners joke about what this means for the kingdom. Whispers of a deal to be made drift about. Something is changing. Opportunity is coming. But what it may cost remains unseen. ---------------------------- GENERAL INFORMATION: Harrow's Nest is a lore-driven landscape that is designed for open world play, and is more than ready to be explored. Any skill level is welcome. Together, we will sink our teeth into a sprawling, wondrous set of storylines. We begin with a princess gone missing, and from there, the world is entirely ours to explore. The way I run games is in favor of my party. I am not looking for a TPK, or to argue about rules. I want us to have fun more than anything else! BUT!!! the actions of your characters in Harrow's Nest do carry a lot of weight, and there is no promise of a balanced encounter. This world is for fans of Westeros, Middle-Earth, Star Wars, Aramán (CR), Exandria (CR), and Comida (D20). There is good and evil, but your decisions determine what those things look like to you and your party. My goal at the end of the day is to help others, myself included, engage D&D in its 5th edition and discover how to play TTRPGs creatively and effectively. Or, for my veterans and forever GMs, rediscover the game we fell in love with!

About me

Hey there! I am a homebrew GM who mostly sticks to D&D 5e. I am 25, from just north of Chicago, and I love creating safe spaces for people to express themselves through games! I've been playing on and off for about 7 years, and have been a forever GM for the last 3 years, haha! I am outgoing, funny, quick, a master of improv and immersion, and love creating worlds that are simple on the surface, but are filled with deep lore for those interested in the finer details. I believe RPGs are a beautiful way to tell stories and play with our friends, and I am eager to provide that experience to anyone interested!

Character creation

Creating your character

Our first session will be entirely devoted to giving an overview of the world and building characters together through D&D Beyond. We will roll for stats as a group. What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please ensure you have the following accounts: - Discord - D&D Beyond - Spotify (optional) Physical dice rolling and notetaking are highly encouraged, though digital dice will be available through D&D Beyond. I do ask that we use webcams, if possible. You will recieve an invite to a Discord server once you are locked in for our game, and we will build your character on D&D Beyond together during out first session! You will also receive a link to a consent form. This will be used to determine what I can do as the GM to ensure you and your companions all have the best time while playing!

What Josiah Davis brings to the table

I use voices for NPCs and I will provide ambience through a Spotify jam session. I am dedicated to making this a very immersive experience. Combat can happen at any moment, and therefore, a game board is not always going to be prepared. For ease of access, almost all combat encounters I prepare for will be run through the D&D Beyond Virtual Tabletop system. I am a huge Rule of Cool advocate, and as it is a homebrew game, I am open to rules looking different than the traditional 5e ruleset. The way I run things is as an open discussion.

Homebrew rules

I have not prepared any homebrew rules. Homebrew rules will mostly come up as we play. 5e is not strict on every little thing, so if someone jumps on a table to gain advantage on an attack roll, we will decide as a table what makes sense in that context. The only thing I do enforce is that moving diagonally on 5ft. squares counts as 10ft.

How Josiah Davis creates a safe table

Before we begin, you will receive a Google form that asks your comfortability around a range of potential topics. Consent, however, is a moment-to-moment thing. Because of this, at any point during gameplay, a player is welcome to send any of the following in the Discord chat: - X, meaning stop/skip - N, meaning caution/move on - O, meaning okay/we're good These signals help me know if I am entering territory a player does not want to explore, as well as letting me know if we have successfully averted said territory.
