Character creation

Creating your character

As I expect to have many new players to the game, we will do a Session 0 where we will discuss people's expectations and plans for their builds. All characters will start at License Level 0 for the first mission. After the first mission, characters will immediately progress to License Level 2, and from there characters will progress 1 License Level per mission.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players should have at least thought about their Lines and Veils, and ideally should come prepared with a list of Lines and Veils. Lines and Veils are a safety tool I use to build the narrative as the game progresses. Lines are themes and events that a player absolutely *does not* want to include in the game. Examples might be torture, racism, sexual exploitation, etc. In my games, torture and sexual assault are always Lines. Veils are themes and events that players don't mind being included, but only as background or using a "fade to black." In my games, sex, and interrogations are always veiled. Meanwhile, once you join I'll send over a link to a Discord that will contain some information for the game, and will be the Voice Chat we use.

What Benjamin brings to the table

I try to cater my games to my groups. My stories always try to include character backgrounds and information in the narrative. While I'm not the best at character voices, I do try to make my NPCs memorable in some way or other. I tend to favour Rule of Cool when I think it's appropriate, particularly in Lancer's "Boots on the Ground" narrative play sections, but during combat I tend to try to keep things to Rules as Intended/Written. I try to keep an even mix of combat and interesting narrative sections. I also will do my best to make tokens for players an NPCs, though the quality isn't the best as I'm no digital artist! Above all, I try to keep my table as an inclusive and safe space for people of all backgrounds.

Homebrew rules

I don't use Tom Bloom's Dusk Wing errata, instead NPCs can be effected by multiple holograms from its core power. In my setting, I tend to either ignore the Aunic Assembly or simply don't include them at all for a variety of reasons.

Safety

How Benjamin creates a safe table

As mentioned, I use Lines and Veils for my games. Further, I always allow my players to contact me outside of games privately if they have any concerns about how things are going. I also will use an X card system during games.
