THE WORLD OF FASTHOLD During WW2, scientists recorded what they called The Shift. Thousands worldwide, from infants to adults, manifested powers: flight, telepathy, water-breathing, super-speed, and more wondrous feats. Heroes emerged from smoke and rubble, landing crashing planes and averting disasters. But balance asserted itself — villains rose to use power for personal gain and destruction. Allegiances were formed to repel an invasion from beyond the stars, welcome beings of good will, and stop the growing chaos. Governments reacted differently. Some harnessed, some subjugated, some banished. The United States became a haven and foster home to outcasts. Borders opened, technology bloomed, and a Golden Age of heroes began. Yet like all Edens, evil found a way in. The assassination of Kennedy, the attacks on King and Carter, Kent State, Waco, the L.A. Riots, Challenger, Columbine, September 11th. The weight of power and responsibility drove many heroes to insanity, solitude, or quiet retirement. Only a dozen remain in the public eye — the patriots, the Golden and Silver Age icons who still honor the United Nations Powers Sanction, known as The Code. It's 2026. More than 80 years have passed.
