About the adventure

Every eight years, the Witchlight Carnival materializes like a dream, its enchanted tents and dazzling attractions promise boundless joy and wonder. Yet, for some, the carnival brings more than just delight. As you wander the carnival grounds, an unsettling feeling nags at you, something was taken from you here long ago. Something precious, something you can’t quite remember, but the emptiness it left behind is all too real. You've tried to fill that void, but nothing ever seemed to be enough. As you search for what was lost, you’ll stumble upon a hidden portal that whisks you away to the Feywild, a realm of breathtaking beauty and perilous danger. In this strange, magical land where the line between whimsy and wickedness blurs like carnival lights in the fog, every step you take could lead to incredible discoveries, or terrifying consequences. Match wits with devious fey, unravel centuries-old mysteries, and uncover truths that will challenge your very understanding of reality. In the Feywild, every choice echoes with consequence, and your actions can tip the scales between light and dark. What will you sacrifice to find what was taken from you? And when you do, will it be what you expected, or something far more dangerous? As your DM, I celebrate creativity, wild ideas, and thinking outside the box. Whether you’re challenging pixies to a dance-off, using mushrooms as impromptu bouncy castles, or devising clever plans to outwit the fey, if it’s fun, inventive, and cool, we’ll make it work. This campaign is a celebration of storytelling, and your creativity will shape the journey we take together. No two adventures will be the same, and your choices will determine the path ahead. Will you uncover the secrets of the Witchlight Carnival, and return home with what was lost? Or will you fall victim to the fey’s whimsical dangers and become forever lost in the Wild Beyond the Witchlight?

About me

Hi there! I'm Joe, aka Phoenix. I've been running TTRPGs for 10 years and have hosted hundreds of games here on StartPlaying. I run character-driven stories where your backstory and weird ideas shape the world

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be using 2024/5.5e rules and your characters will start at level 1, you can make a character before Session 0 if you like but character creation will be handled in session 0. that way I am there if you need help. I will also help tailor your character to the campaign and setting.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have the following: - access to a webcam/mic - a dndbyond account (for building characters and accessing the campaign and map/VTT) - a discord account (for playing the game)

What Joe (Phoenix) brings to the table

I will provide the dndbeyond campaign which has content sharing available so anything I own you can have access to as well, a discord server where we will play the game. I have a music bot in the server that will provide some nice background music and the occasional sound effect. I am a big believer and practitioner of the Rule of Cool and the "yes and" philosophy. Players can expect a rules light, roleplay heavy experience that focus on telling a good story.

Homebrew rules

- Drinking a potion can be either a bonus action or a full action. - On a critical hit in combat (Nat 20) you double the damage dice. One die is automatically the highest number on the die. Reroll 1's on the damage die - A Natural 20 on initiative gives you advantage on your first hit. A Natural 1 on initiative gives you disadvantage on your first hit. - When a dying character fails their third death saving throw, they can immediately take any single action Those are the Big Ones. A list of all these house rules and more that I use are listed in my discord server
