About the adventure

This campaign is a fantasy steampunk campaign that will have players travel from the mainland to the previously unimportant Shimmer Isle to figure out the strange happenings taking place there. None of the players at first will know of or be familiar with this new technology and will learn and grow accustomed to it as the campaign continues. I do include a fair bit of humor inside of my campaigns but they are also serious. Side quests and free exploration will also be present and the party won't be forced or railroaded to focus on the main story.

About me

Howdy, Y'all can address me as Siren. 22 year old all around nerd with a background in medical. I've been playing tabletop, specifically dungeons and dragons. Since I was 10, and been a DM since I was 12. I'm generally upbeat and positive and welcoming to all. After privately DMing for friends and groups for all those years I think I'm finally ready to put myself out there and see if more people would enjoy my style of gaming and would be interested in making their stories and characters come to life.

Character creation

Creating your character

All characters start at level one with one free feat in addition to whatever else they get. All characters come from the mainland or parts of it and nobody is from the island itself. Please write down backstories for characters so I can include them in the campaign. There will be a free session 0 for character creation and expectations on both player and DM sides of the game and any and all questions can be asked then.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

D&D beyond and discord are highly highly encouraged, but anyway to contact me will work. Running d&d campaigns in VR (Virtual reality) is something I also have very lengthy experience in, specifically VRC (VR Chat). Ideally a discord server and d&d beyond campaign will be made for the story and for use by the players and myself.

What Abyssal Siren brings to the table

I do heavily encourage roleplay from and between characters but it isn't necessary. I do use voices for my npcs and mainly try to include at least 1 combat encounter per session. I do encourage and reward creativity and thinking outside the box at my tables, rule of cool is also something I will indulge in from time to time.

Homebrew rules

Crits always deal whatever you roll times 2. Quick actions such as shoves/kicks/stomps can be bonus actions. Natural 20s sometimes don't fully succeed an impossible check. Natural 1s will sometimes incur penalties for both enemies and the party. I do encourage homebrew but ask it is run by me first so it fits with the campaign and the party and I am all for reflavoring items or mechanics to help them make characters feel more unique.

Safety

How Abyssal Siren creates a safe table

During session 0 players and me will talk over everything expected on both sides of the table and I will offer multiple safety tools and trigger warning sheets and such. Players will be informed and encouraged to talk to me whenever they feel uncomfortable or if a sensitive topic arises both in and out of game. I strive to make my table a safe place for my players and a place they can all feel welcomed, relaxed, and have fun at.
