About the adventure

Every tide brings a new story to Luskan... but today's tide has brought murder. You arrive in the infamous City of Sails expecting nothing more than the next stop on your journey. Instead, within minutes of stepping onto Dragon Beach, you witness the arrest of an innocent captain accused of a brutal murder. The evidence seems overwhelming—but something doesn't add up. As whispers of corruption spread through the harbor, you'll have only until sundown to uncover the truth before justice is served to the wrong person. Blood on Dragon Beach is the first adventure in The Luskan Chronicles, a series of connected one-shot adventures set in the legendary pirate city of Luskan along the Sword Coast. Each adventure tells a complete story in a single 2–3 hour session while allowing players to continue using their characters in future adventures as they grow in level. Whether this is your first visit to Luskan or you're returning with a familiar hero, every mystery stands on its own while contributing to a living, evolving world. This adventure focuses on investigation, roleplaying, exploration, and meaningful choices. Combat is present, but it isn't the only—or always the best—solution. Pay attention to conversations, examine your surroundings, and connect the clues. Every NPC has a reason for what they say and do, and every detail may become important later. Your decisions shape how the story unfolds, how the people of Luskan respond to your actions, and ultimately who receives justice. My games are highly immersive and player-driven. I use character voices, ambient music, visual handouts, custom maps, and Foundry VTT to bring the world to life. I don't railroad players through a predetermined story—instead, I present a living world that reacts naturally to your choices. Whether you're a brand-new player or a veteran adventurer, I enjoy helping everyone feel comfortable at the table while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and memorable roleplaying moments. If you enjoy solving mysteries, uncovering conspiracies, exploring richly detailed settings, and being part of a story where your choices truly matter, then Dragon Beach is waiting... and the tide has already begun to turn.

About me

Hi! I’ve been playing TTRPGs since the 1980s, and I still get excited every time I help players dive into a new world—whether it’s a classic D&D setting or something homebrewed and unexpected. But what I truly love isn’t just the adventure... it’s the storytelling. As your GM, I specialize in collaborative, character-driven campaigns where your backstory matters. This isn’t just narrative flavor—your character’s personal history becomes part of the main story. I actively weave your background into world events, faction politics, and long-term story arcs. Even when I run published modules, I treat them like a foundation—not a script. The moment your characters step into the world, it begins to change. --- What Makes My Games Unique In my games: Your backstory shapes your character’s future Choices matter, and consequences ripple outward Known modules evolve into entirely new stories Emotional moments are just as impactful as epic battles --- Real Examples from My Campaigns From my current Tyranny of Dragons campaign: A bard’s forgotten past life ties into a magical flute that glows when she nears ancient dragon-song runes. Visions and hauntings warn of her connection to a prophecy the cult seeks to exploit. A cleric, exiled from her peaceful order, finds the decaying body of a priest from her past—clutching a letter that reveals both corruption in her faith and a hidden connection to a party member’s future. A rogue’s childhood friend is murdered, triggering a sidequest that uncovers a secret assassin and a traitor embedded in a major faction—shaping the campaign’s political web and main villain reveal. If you want a GM who invests in your story and builds a world that remembers your choices, I’d love to run a game for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create your character during Session 0 using D&D Beyond as your digital character sheet, ensuring everyone is built correctly for the adventure and fully integrated with our virtual tabletop. During Session 0, we'll also create your character token, import everything into Foundry VTT, and make sure you're ready to jump into the game. Characters begin at the adventure's starting level, and all official 2024 D&D 5e content available on D&D Beyond is welcome unless otherwise discussed. Ability scores are generated using the campaign's standard method during Session 0, and we'll review backgrounds, equipment, spells, and character connections together so everyone begins with a character that fits both the story and the party. No prior character creation experience is required—I’ll guide you through the entire process.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before Session 0, please complete the following steps so you're ready to jump into the adventure: • After booking your seat, you'll receive your personalized invite links for Discord, D&D Beyond, and Foundry VTT. • Join the D&D Beyond campaign using your invite link. • Install the Beyond20 browser extension (available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox) to connect your D&D Beyond character sheet directly to Foundry. • Create a free Forge/Foundry VTT account and accept the campaign invitation to access maps, handouts, combat, music, and immersive gameplay. • Join our Discord server, where we'll use voice chat for every session and where you'll find announcements, scheduling, and campaign resources. • Make sure you have a working microphone (a webcam is optional but always welcome). • Attend Session 0, where we'll create your character, finalize your token, review the campaign, answer questions, and ensure everyone is ready before the adventure begins. No prior experience with D&D Beyond or Foundry is required. I'll guide you through the entire setup process, and all of the custom invitation links you'll need will be provided after you join the adventure.

What Errol brings to the table

I strive to create a cinematic, immersive experience where your choices genuinely shape the story. Expect distinct NPC voices, ambient music, sound effects, detailed maps, handouts, and dynamic lighting through Foundry VTT to bring the world to life. Investigation, exploration, roleplay, and combat all receive equal attention, ensuring every character has opportunities to shine. Combat is tactical and meaningful, with enemies acting intelligently and encounters designed to challenge the party without feeling unfair. I primarily run using the 2024 D&D 5e Rules as Written, but I'm always willing to reward creative thinking through the Rule of Cool when it enhances the story and creates memorable moments. If you come up with an inventive solution that fits the situation, I'll do my best to make it work. You'll receive: A fully integrated Foundry VTT experience with dynamic maps, lighting, music, journals, and animated effects. Digital character management through D&D Beyond with seamless Beyond20 integration. High-quality artwork, custom handouts, and immersive visual storytelling. Memorable NPCs with unique personalities and voices. A welcoming table where teamwork, roleplay, and player creativity are encouraged. Whether you enjoy solving mysteries, negotiating with dangerous criminals, uncovering hidden secrets, or facing challenging combat encounters, my goal is for every session to feel like you're stepping into a living fantasy novel where your decisions truly matter.

Homebrew rules

I keep homebrew rules to a minimum so the game remains easy to learn and consistent with the 2024 D&D 5e rules. My primary house rules include: Potions: Drinking a healing potion yourself is a bonus action. Administering one to another creature remains an action. Critical Hits: Critical hits deal maximum damage on one damage die, then roll the remaining dice, making critical hits feel impactful without becoming overly swingy. Rule of Cool: Creative, cinematic ideas are encouraged. If an action is exciting, fits the story, and doesn't overshadow the game, I'm happy to reward inventive thinking. Table Respect: Rules discussions are welcome, but to keep the game moving I'll make a ruling during the session and, if needed, we'll review it together afterward. Other than these small adjustments, I run the game as close to the official 2024 D&D 5e Rules as Written as possible.

Safety

How Errol creates a safe table

Creating a welcoming, respectful, and enjoyable table is one of my highest priorities. During Session 0, we'll discuss the tone of the adventure, expectations for player conduct, character creation, party dynamics, and any topics players would prefer to avoid. My goal is to ensure everyone feels comfortable before the adventure begins. During each session, we'll take a short break about halfway through to give everyone a chance to stretch, grab a drink, or step away for a few minutes. Players are also welcome to step away at any time if needed—just let the group know if possible. After each session, we'll spend a few minutes debriefing the adventure, discussing favorite moments, answering questions, and talking about where the story may lead next. I encourage open communication both during and between sessions, and if a player ever has a concern, they are always welcome to message me privately. My goal is to create an inclusive, collaborative table where everyone feels respected, heard, and excited to return for the next session.
