About the adventure

This is a homebrew world and campaign I made. It has elements of steampunk, but the main focus is on exploration and adventure. One of my main goals is that players help guide the story, with backstories that tie into the world, and an adventure that follows the interests of the party. All experience levels are welcome, I like to start at level three, and do milestone leveling, but I could be persuaded to xp if everyone wants to. The basic concept of the setting is that the surface of the planet is basically uninhabitable, so civilization exists in small, scattered places above the storm. Mountain tops, magically floating islands, flying ships, and artificially flying cities all exist with varying levels of rarity. A variety of animal and plant species have adapted to live in or above the storm, but humanoids have struggled to make it even a few yards down into the storm, much less the miles it would take to reach the surface of the planet. All playable species and classes are allowed, and I'm open to doing this in 5e or 5.5 depending on what the table wants.

About me

My name is Peachy Sobczak, but you can call me PJ or Peach. I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I was eight years old, when my parents taught me second edition. I have been playing 5th edition since middle school. I’ve made and played dozens of characters in my life, and I’ve DMed half a dozen campaigns and at least as many one-shots. I generally homebrew settings but am not averse to premade modules. As a DM, I pride myself on creativity, game knowledge, and fostering a welcoming space for my players. In my opinion, it is a dungeon master’s job to make sure that everybody at the table is engaged and having a good time.

Character creation

Creating your character

I am a fan of rolling for stats, but I understand that it can be unbalanced, so I have some ways I allow players to fudge the numbers so everyone will have a good time. you can expect at least one 20, but I also like players to have at least one stat that is deep in the negatives, partially to balance out the highs, but mostly because I find it more interesting if there are mechanical flaws and weaknesses to build characters off of. I prefer to do a group session zero to roll for stats, but I understand scheduling can be difficult, so it would also be fine to work with me individually to create characters. I'll want at least a brief session zero eventually to discuss expectations, safety, player preferences, and generally what to expect from the campaign. All sources are allowed, if there's anything crazy or homebrew you want to play, I'm open to it but it would have to be discussed first.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

having a discord account would be a must, and I will make a server to use for voice calls, scheduling, etc. for combat maps I will be using Roll20, so an account on that will be required also, but I can help set up players on that when it becomes relevant.

What P.J. brings to the table

My voices aren't anything groundbreaking, but I try to differentiate important npcs, and I try to put at least some tactical depth to my combats. As far as rule of cool or RaW, I can go either way depending on the preference of the table, though I lean toward rule of cool in general.

Homebrew rules

potions can be a bonus actions, starting feat in 5e, nothing crazy other than that. if there's anything you're specifically interested in feel free to bring it up!

Safety

How P.J. creates a safe table

There will be a session zero to discuss rules, expectations, preferences, triggers, and safety tools. Players are always allowed to message me about content they are not enjoying or would rather not see. If anything is happening in a session that anyone is uncomfortable with, they can message me or ask out loud for a break/ to discuss what is making them uncomfortable. I feel strongly that this is a game and should be fun for everyone, and if anything is ever going to far, I 100% want to know, even if that means stopping the session to deal with it and make sure everyone is ok. I'll be available to talk after sessions about anything that bothered anyone as well.
