About the adventure

Welcome to the Sword Coast, a region teetering on the edge of catastrophe. In Hoard of the Dragon Queen, your players will step into a high-stakes, epic fantasy campaign where the sinister Cult of the Dragon is actively raiding settlements, gathering a massive treasure hoard, and seeking to release Tiamat—the terrifying, five-headed Dragon Queen—from her prison in the Nine Hells. This campaign is the perfect launching pad for beginner and intermediate players alike. For newcomers, it offers a classic D&D experience filled with heroic stands, espionage, and iconic monsters. For intermediate and veteran players, it presents a dynamic, fast-paced narrative that rewards clever tactics and investigative roleplay over mindless dungeon crawling. What you can expect The First Half (Levels 1–7/8): This adventure serves as the crucial first half of a grander duology. Players will start as level 1 novices defending a town under siege and wrap up around level 7 or 8 as renowned heroes who have uncovered a continent-spanning conspiracy. The Second Half (Up to Level 15): The story doesn’t have to end there. Hoard of the Dragon Queen is designed to seamlessly transition into its epic conclusion, The Rise of Tiamat. By continuing into the second half, you as the players can take characters all the way up to level 15, facing apocalyptic stakes and legendary dragons.

About me

I have been playing dnd since highschool so about 10 years now and have been a DM for the majority of it. I love being able to create a fun adventure for people to lose themselves in and enjoy. I am from the USA and have done university in Germany and now the UK so I have met people from around the world and taught many people how to play dnd. I will be moving back to the states in August so time for gaming will be discussed. I have had a majority of players enjoy my games but some seem to dislike I bend rules and finalize them based off how players refuse to play such as crits, travel time, exploration, etc.

Character creation

Creating your character

This will be up to players. You may want to do this alone which I will send you information for or you may need help. In session zero I offer two services - One it is greetings to all players, characters, and discussion and Two it is used for character creation for anyone who needs it or would like discuss combining backstories with other players

The current party

The party class will be up you as a team or even as your own person/ However, experience of players is expected to be either new or mixed and I would like that to be known. I want a campaign anyone can join.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Get use to either dndbeyond vtt and character sheet and be aware of how to join a discord server. You do not need to download anything.

What Austin Fox brings to the table

I will provide resources for general character creation, character voices for NPC's and will help write characters for players if need be. I embrace the rule of cool a lot and love to discuss rules with players. I like using homebrew items that affect the story that I pre-create but if players would like to play RAW then that is ok as well.

Homebrew rules

Drinking potions are bonus actions always, crits are discussed at the start as either following RAW or multiplied (example - crit of a longsword would be 2x (1d10+your mod)), I have some homebrew about death saves ---> you may take one point of exhaustion to auto stabilize during combat but not outside of it. More will be discussed in session 0

Safety

How Austin Fox creates a safe table

To make this game comfortable for every player I would like to in session 0 discuss what everyone is against and isnt against. I have set lines out of game for a reason such as no being homophobic or racist, hating on someone for religious reasons is not okay, dark humor is allowed but we talk about it with everyone first, no politics, I do not care if you are gay, jewish, christian, muslim, democrats, republicans, etc this is a time to escape the world and have fun so let my table be that for others is all I ask
