About the adventure
Welcome aboard, and prepare for a bumpy ride! Sandy Skies is a custom setting, full of dangerous creatures forced to evolve to cope with the constant raging sandstorm that blankets the surface of the planet. As far as humanoids, they've settled on just about every mountain top and floating island on the planet, even building airships and flying cities, anything to keep them out of the storm. Players will be classic adventurers, driven from home to explore the vast empty skies, meeting pirates and paladins, fighting monsters and mercenaries, just doing whatever they can to survive the violent, chaotic world that exists outside the small pockets of relative safety and civilization. That being said, not everything is so simple. Cults scheme in the background, cities wage war over resources, sending out privateers to harass each others trade routs. I encourage all my players to build their characters into the world because it will allow me to build the world around you. Your actions will have material impact on the story, so one must grapple with the immense philosophical pressure and carefully consider each move, or through wisdom to the wind and just have fun. Either way, your actions will matter in both the short and long term. If all this sounds interesting to you, and you think you can make it in this harsh, desert world, then grab your dice, grab a seat, and get ready to Set Sail in the Sandy Skies!

About me
My name is Peachy Sobczak, but you can call me PJ or Peach. I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I was eight years old, when my parents taught me second edition. I have been playing 5th edition since middle school. I’ve made and played dozens of characters in my life, and I’ve DMed half a dozen campaigns and at least as many one-shots. I generally homebrew settings but am not averse to premade modules. As a DM, I pride myself on creativity, game knowledge, and fostering a welcoming space for my players. In my opinion, it is a dungeon master’s job to make sure that everybody at the table is engaged and having a good time.

Creating your character
I am a fan of rolling for stats, but I understand that it can be unbalanced, so I have some ways I allow players to fudge the numbers so everyone will have a good time. Players can expect at least one 20, but I also like characters to have at least one stat that is deep in the negatives, partially to balance out the highs, but mostly because I find it more interesting if there are mechanical flaws and weaknesses to build characters off of. There will be a free session zero for safety, expectations, and rolling stats. Coming to that session with a character in mind is encouraged, and I'm happy to work with people individually leading up to the first session on backstory and mechanical character building. All sources are allowed, if there's anything crazy or homebrew anyone wants to use, I'm open to it but it would have to be discussed first. Character will start at level three, with a bonus feat, and whatever gear it makes sense to have based on backstory.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Having a discord account is a must, there is a server to use for voice calls, scheduling, etc. For combat maps I will be using Roll20, so an account on that will be required also, but I can help set up players on that when it becomes relevant.
What P.J. brings to the table
I put my players enjoyment first, with a combination of engaging character moments, tactical combat maps, and overarching stories and mysteries for the party to experience as the sessions go on. Rule of Cool will be my default interpretation of the book, and I encourage creativity with how players use mechanics to interact with the world. The more creative and engaging an idea is, the more likely I am to let the player try it. I'm not afraid of holding players accountable for their actions either, I won't stop you from going with an inadvisable plan, but I will make sure you feel the consequences of your actions.
Homebrew rules
Potions can be a bonus actions, Starting feat, and I have been known to allow players to work with me to homebrew a feat, as long as it makes sense for their character. Nothing crazy other than that. If there's anything you're specifically interested in feel free to bring it up!

How P.J. creates a safe table
There will be a session zero to discuss rules, expectations, preferences, triggers, and safety tools. Players are always allowed to message me about content they are not enjoying or would rather not see. If anything is happening in a session that anyone is uncomfortable with, they can message me or ask out loud for a break / to discuss what is making them uncomfortable. I feel strongly that this is a game and should be fun for everyone, and if anything is ever going to far, I 100% want to know, even if that means stopping the session to deal with it and make sure everyone is ok. I'll be available to talk after sessions about anything that bothered anyone as well.
