About the adventure

This campaign starts in Waterdeep, one of the greatest cities in the Forgotten Realms, where every alley has a secret, every tavern has a rumor, and everyone seems to want a piece of the same missing fortune. We’ll begin with Dragon Heist: a city-based adventure full of faction intrigue, street-level danger, strange allies, rival schemers, and plenty of chances for your characters to make Waterdeep feel like home. You might be chasing gold, building connections, making enemies, protecting your neighborhood, or simply trying to survive long enough to figure out who is lying to you. Then the story descends into Dungeon of the Mad Mage, where Waterdeep’s bright streets give way to Undermountain: a massive, dangerous, deeply weird megadungeon ruled by Halaster Blackcloak. This is where the campaign grows from local mystery into a true Level 1–20 saga of exploration, tactical combat, ancient magic, impossible rooms, and choices that follow you back to the surface. This game is for players who want the full long-form D&D experience: roleplay, combat, exploration, faction drama, found-family party dynamics, and the satisfaction of growing from fresh adventurers into legends. I’ll bring the maps, music, pacing, onboarding, and structure. You bring a character ready to make friends, make trouble, and find out just how deep the rabbit hole under Waterdeep really

About me

HI y’all, thank you for taking a peek at my profile! I’m DM Bauric, and I love running cinematic D&D games where players are empowered and everyone has a great time. I have been mostly playing, and sometimes DMing, DnD since 3e and became a forever DM about 2.5 years or so ago. I primarily run 5.5e/2024 but do supplement with 5e material where it makes sense. My tables are built around the idea that player agency is the key to a wonderful, and sometimes whacky, campaign. That does not mean I as the DM don’t get to have some fun. I also pride myself on the fact that I have polished my onboarding experience for players at my table because if you’re paying for a session, those sessions should respect your time. I use Foundry, Discord, and D&D Beyond as I have found this to be the cleanest way to give my players an experience they enjoy. I also try and make setup as clear as possible before play begins. Newer players are welcome. What I care about most is creating a table where players feel prepared, included, and invested. Your choices should matter, your character should feel connected to the world, and each session should move the story forward.

Character creation

Creating your character

Your first step into Waterdeep begins with a free Session 0. We will go over character creation, D&D Beyond setup, party ties, campaign expectations, safety tools, and how to get onboarded into Foundry/Discord. Characters will start at Level 1 with Point Buy and standard starting equipment, using official Wizards of the Coast content as approved for tone, setting, and balance. This campaign is best for characters ready for both city intrigue and deep dungeon adventure: people with reasons to chase rumors, trust the party, make a name in Waterdeep, and eventually descend into the madness waiting beneath the city. Before Session 1, we’ll have one last character check-in to make sure everyone feels connected, campaign-ready, and fully part of Waterdeep’s streets, secrets, and shadows.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before Session 0, you only need a few things ready. Create free Discord and D&D Beyond accounts. After joining the campaign, you’ll receive the Discord server and D&D Beyond campaign link. You’ll also need a working microphone, stable internet, and a computer or laptop that can run Foundry in a modern browser like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. A headset is recommended for cleaner audio and fewer distractions. No character creation is needed before Session 0. We’ll build your character together, get your tools set up, and make sure you’re ready to step into Waterdeep’s streets, secrets, and shadows.

What Bauric brings to the table

I do the groundwork so you can focus on playing your character, making hard choices, and getting lost in the world. I’ll help you get comfortable with the tools before we begin, especially if Foundry or online D&D is new to you. My style is cinematic, roleplay-forward, and grounded. I like strong atmosphere, meaningful choices, and scenes that give characters room to breathe without slowing the game down. Combat has a purpose, rulings stay consistent, and the rules support the story rather than smother it. My goal is simple: make Waterdeep feel alive, keep the table moving, and give you a campaign where your choices matter, from the city’s crowded streets to the strange depths of Undermountain. Most importantly, I want you to have fun.

Homebrew rules

I keep homebrew light, clear, and focused on making the game feel better at the table. Death saves are rolled privately to keep dangerous moments tense and uncertain, especially once the party starts delving into Undermountain. I do not use flanking. That’s about it. I prefer rules that are easy to understand, applied consistently, and support the pace and atmosphere of the game without rewriting what makes 5.5e feel like 5.5e. The goal is simple: fewer speed bumps, more tension, and a smoother path from Waterdeep’s streets into the depths below.

Safety

How Bauric creates a safe table

Waterdeep and Undermountain should feel dangerous, strange, and full of consequences for the characters, not uncomfortable for the players. We’ll cover tone, expectations, boundaries, and content preferences during Session 0 using a shared Lines and Veils document that can be updated at any time. You’ll also have access to X, N, and O tools through Discord chat or direct message whenever needed, including during play. Every session includes 5 minute breaks every hour, and my table always has an open door policy. You can step away, pause, or check out briefly without pressure or explanation. For intense scenes, I may check in quickly to make sure everyone is still good. The goal is an immersive campaign of city intrigue, dangerous dungeon delves, strange discoveries, and meaningful tension while keeping the table respectful, communicative, and comfortable out of character.
