About the adventure

Gunderholfen… Ancient, abandoned dwarf hold, battleground of arch-liches, cultist base, wizards’ playground, heroes’ bane and treasure-seekers’ tomb. From the towering walls of Longfelt, a prosperous trade city at the edge of a kingdom lies Ganfal swamp. The swamp has been hold to ancient lizard folk, whose civilization collapsed millennia ago. Taking there place were the dwarves. In the hills beyond the swamp they built a great city to found an empire. The dwarven city of Gunderholfen. For reasons unknown many centuries past the dwarves vanished. From then, the dungeon has been the home of arch-liches and cruel sorcerers. All defeated by heroes. Now the dungeon simply requires the local Baron to train and hold more armsmen than might be expected in a border town. You have arrived in Longfelt, for one of many reasons. Glory, honor, riches, service, preservation, or others. The dungeon beckons, the swamp is dangerous, and the Baron has hired you to solve a problem in two weeks time. Gunderholfen is a megadungeon with over 10 levels, not counting sublevels. We should go to well beyond level 10 if we keep at it! You'll travel to a few demiplanes, explore ruins of the lost lizard folk empire, and plunder the depths of Gunderholfen. There's more than a megadungeon, the swamp has many features to explore for a break from the dungeon, and quests will pop up in play as time passes. The city of Longfelt is a prosperous city on the border, with many NPCs and city factions to interact with who may have quests of their own.

About me

I've been a GM for over 15 years now, and have been playing since the late 90's and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2e. I have run Dungeons and Dragons (0e, B/X, 1e, 3.5, 5e), Vampire: The Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu, Fate, Cyberpunk, Mechwarrior, Pathfinder (1e, 2e), and Traveller in that time. I'm a huge fan of flexible systems that allow for quick resolution and lean more into rulings than rules. Personally I view my improvisational ability as my greatest strength as a GM. I have a strong emphasis on player agency and player driven stories. I love giving my players a sandbox and seeing what stories they want to tell. I also specialize in taking the ideas my players have about their characters backstories, enemies, and friends, and weaving those into scenarios seamlessly. I often work with published modules, but rarely run them out of the box. I like to customize them to the players and characters at my table in order to make them more engaging and enjoyable experiences. I am a trans lesbian, queer friendly, and inclusive. I will use safety tools if desired, though have for the most part used informal interrupts and messages if any lines are crossed. I believe in strong session 0s to establish expectations and lines. Both on my side and that of my players. I have a low tolerance for disruptive players and am not afraid to eject them from my table.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will roll 4d6 and drop low, assign where you wish. There are no class restrictions on races. Humans may dual class, other races may multi-class. Half-elves and Half-orcs choose which society they grew up in, that determines if they mutli-class or dual class.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using Owlbear Rodeo (no account needed, but having one is a bit more convenient). Voice will be on Discord. I am fine with being on camera if the group wishes it. You will receive a link to my discord server in the welcome email.

What Fey brings to the table

I will provide a cozy and safe environment where you can express yourselves. Foremost, I always want my players to be having fun. The world I provide will be of the OSR style, a bit gritty and grimy, reactive and responsive, and always moving. There will be moments for a character to shine, and the group to come together to face tough problems. I like OSR systems because they are more based on rulings, instead of rules. Remember that your character sheet is just some numbers, you can always think outside your sheet.. I am a flexible, improvisational GM and love hearing unique solutions to the situations I place before your characters. I do character voices, but don't claim to be a voice actor. Combat is lethal, but enemies will run when losing. Not all encounters will be ones that must be met with sword and fire. Secretly, I want my players to win!

Homebrew rules

We will use a few homebrew rules. -Introduction of the Healer's Kit, 100 gp, 10 uses. When used on someone dropped below 0 HP before 1 turn has passed, they gain a scar but live, rather than die. May also be used once per day per person to heal 1d2 hp. -Talents that can be purchased with XP or rewarded by the GM. -Magic Users and Clerics will gain the use of Cantrips and Orisons a limited number of times per day determined by level. -The game will be working on Swords & Wizardry as a base, but borrowing some things from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons / OSRIC such as the bonuses for stats provide, racial abilities, and some spells. -Humans gain +1 to any one stat on top of their 10% xp bonus.

Safety

How Fey creates a safe table

I provide a session 0 where I discuss my lines and veils and ask others to list theirs. You can provide me these privately and I will bring them up without mentioning the source. You can message me any time if a scene is uncomfortable and we will fade it out. I also will watch for X, N, & Os typed into chat, or messaged to me directly.
