About the adventure

A newly discovered continent lies beyond the western sea. Early expeditions confirmed its existence, but blistering temperatures and unforgiving conditions made exploration nearly impossible. Now, a coalition of scholars, inventors, explorers, and dreamers has launched the first serious attempt at establishing a permanent settlement in this hostile land. You are one of those pioneers. Sheltered within a climate-controlled colony, you will help determine humanity's future on this new frontier. Survey the wilderness. Discover new plants and animals. Expand the settlement. Debate how resources should be used. Decide whether the environment should be preserved, adapted to, or transformed entirely. Every major decision has consequences, and the direction of the colony will be shaped by the players rather than a predetermined story. This is a play-by-post campaign built around exploration, discovery, roleplay, and collaborative worldbuilding. Characters will organize into teams, undertake expeditions, conduct research, solve problems, and help guide the growth of the colony. While danger certainly exists, combat is not the primary focus. The heart of the campaign is deciding how an entirely new civilization should develop when there are no existing rules to follow. This game is ideal for players who enjoy meaningful choices, long-term projects, scientific curiosity, political discussion, and uncovering mysteries at their own pace. New discoveries can change everything, and the actions taken during the colony's earliest days may shape the future of an entire continent. The desert is vast. Its future is yours to decide.

About me

Hello! As you can tell by the number of games I have hosted, that I am not new to GMing and in fact have been doing it for 6 years now. Being a GM is an awesome experience where I get to shape a narrative with a group of people in a fun and exciting way. For me personally, creating a welcoming environment for new players and veterans alike, where they start as strangers, and then enjoy each other's company while telling a story together, is unmatched.

Character creation

Creating your character

Before You Create Your Character This campaign is about exploration, discovery, and building a future in an unknown land. You are not wandering adventurers looking for the next dungeon. You are members of one of the first serious attempts to establish a permanent settlement on a newly discovered continent. Every character has chosen to leave the comforts of home behind and travel into a hostile desert where success is far from guaranteed. The biggest decisions in this campaign won’t be made on a battlefield. They will be made in laboratories, council meetings, survey camps, workshops, and around the dinner table. The colony’s future will be shaped by the people who live there. Should the land be preserved or transformed? Should resources be exploited or protected? Should the colony expand, migrate, or simply survive? Because of this, who your character is matters far more than what your character can do. When creating a character, think about what role they would play in an expedition like this. Are they a scholar seeking answers? An explorer searching for the unknown? An engineer hoping to build something lasting? A merchant looking for opportunity? A conservationist hoping to protect a fragile ecosystem? A politician, doctor, cartographer, farmer, archaeologist, or simply someone seeking a new beginning? Characters with strong opinions, goals, and ideas for the future of the colony will have the greatest impact on the story. A character with a clear vision for what the colony should become will have many opportunities to shape its future. Characters should be created on Dndbeyond. I will have content sharing enabled, so you will have lots of options. Use the campaign link and create your character there or join with one you've already made. Characters should be level 8 and built using standard array or point buy for ability scores. HP should use the default setting of "fixed." All official content is ok. This includes UA, CR, and Custom Lineage from TCoE. Unofficial content is ok with DM Approval. This includes both 2014 and 2024 rules. Mix and match as you like. Everyone can starts with all normal starting equipment or gold. Plus 1 "gear token" These can be spent in the following ways: 1 gear token - 400gp 1 gear token- uncommon item (magical or nonmagical) or pet/steed within reason

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game begins, please: Create a character on D&D Beyond and join the campaign. Join the Discord server. Upload a character image to be used as your token. Read the campaign information and familiarize yourself with the colony's premise. This is a play-by-post campaign. Players are expected to check Discord regularly and contribute to the ongoing story. While there is no maximum posting requirement, players should generally expect to post at least a few times per week. More active participation is encouraged and will help keep the colony moving forward. Most importantly, come with ideas. This is a highly player-driven campaign where exploration plans, colony projects, research initiatives, and major decisions will often originate from the players themselves.

What Franky Von brings to the table

I will provide: A dedicated Discord server organized into channels for different teams, projects, expeditions, and roleplay. Daily GM engagement and regular story updates. Private channels for expeditions, investigations, and other activities that may not be known to the entire colony. Maps, handouts, and visual references as needed. Character and colony management support. A living world that responds to player decisions. The server is designed to keep information organized so important discoveries, plans, and discussions don't get buried beneath unrelated conversations. As the colony grows, new channels, projects, and opportunities will open up based on player actions. This is intended to feel like a living expedition rather than a traditional session-based campaign. The colony will continue to evolve through the actions, discoveries, and decisions of its inhabitants.

How Franky Von creates a safe table

This campaign uses Open Door, Lines and Veils, and a Session 0 discussion before play begins. Players are welcome to step away from the game at any time and may privately message me if any content becomes uncomfortable. Before the campaign begins, we'll discuss expectations, themes, and boundaries as a group. Because this is a play-by-post game, players may also contact me at any time to request that content be adjusted, skipped, or faded to black. This campaign focuses on exploration, discovery, survival, and colony-building. While disagreements between characters are expected and encouraged, disagreements between players are not. The goal is collaborative storytelling, even when characters hold competing visions for the colony's future. If any issue arises during play, I will work with the group to address it promptly and respectfully.
