About the adventure
This multi-shot adventure is set in my homebrew world of Thaneroth, a world where strong magic is suffused into the very fabric of the universe, and with it, powerful enemies and dangerous environments. Ruins and relics can be found from epic battles and ages past. This multi-shot adventure is meant for players with an understanding of Dungeons and Dragons, ranging from a middle to an extensive understanding of the game and how it works. Starting at level 5 and ending around level 8. In the bustling city of Greenfield, you are roaming the streets looking for some good food and good grub. You make your way into a tavern, and as you are seated, you overhear a young Scholar talking about his quest to find the Helm of Dagvier, and how it has been lost to time, but he believes he has found its resting place. However, he needs a party to escort him to the location. If your party is up to the task, this adventure can take you through the mysterious swamps and shadowy plains of Thaneroth, or it could take you across the violent oceans to the shores of dark lands. Does your party have what it takes to escort the young Scholar to the Helm of Dagvier, or will they meet their end along the way?

About me
Hey there! My name is Jarett Jones, and I have been a GM for the last few years in D&D. While that time has only consisted of me running one campaign that is still ongoing, I have run numerous one-shot adventures for a few different groups of people. Currently, I am only familiar with D&D 5e, but I aim to broaden my horizons over time and learn some of the other systems and TTRPG's that are out there. During this time, I have been a GM for people who have been playing the game for years and for people who are brand new to the game; both sides are fun to work with and present their own unique challenges as a GM. I have also played in multiple campaigns and one-shots so I know the player side of the game as well! I work a full-time job on midnights, and I am looking to do this on the side on my days off. However, my job comes with a decent amount of downtime, so preparation for sessions will never be an issue.

Creating your character
Character creation can be handled during the first session, or you can reach out to me, and we can schedule a one-on-one character creation session before the first session!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to make accounts on Discord and DnD Beyond, if they do not have one already. I also have a Discord Server that you will need to join. Just shoot me a message, and I will send you the invite!
What Jarett brings to the table
I am still expanding on my skills with voices, but I enjoy doing them! I also use background music and sounds, so you can expect interactive roleplay scenarios and fitting music and background noises to help fill out the situation at hand. Most combat encounters will be simple and straightforward, with some roleplay thrown in with the combat. Major combat encounters are difficult and require tactical thinking. I am a firm believer in a mixture of rules as written and the rule of cool! If you can give me a solid reason as to why a character would attempt something, or if you think creatively about how to handle a situation, then I see no reason to stop that! If there are any disputes on rules, then we can always discuss it and come to a good compromise!
Homebrew rules
Critical Hits: If you land a critical hit, then you automatically do the maximum damage that could be dealt with the attack, then roll the damage die without your proficiency bonus and add the max and the rolled result to get your total. Example: You land a critical hit with a Great sword dealing 2d6+1 Slashing Damage, you would automatically do 13 Damage, then roll 2d6, getting 7 as the result. You would add the maximum damage to the rolled damage, giving you a total of 20 Slashing Damage for that attack. Death Saves: The player who is making the Death Saving Throws will make them in private and tell only the GM what the result is. I feel that this gives the game another layer of immersion, as you wouldn't know how a fellow party member is fairing unless you were to personally assess their situation.

How Jarett creates a safe table
I will be sending out a link to my Lines and Veils document, so I can have all of that information in one place. In Session 0, I will be going over my rules and expectations as the GM, as well as what the table can expect from me. We will do basic introductions and get to know each other and the do's and dont's of the group. And if time permits it, then we will do a small mission that can help build the cohesion between the players and characters. I firmly believe in Aftercare and Debriefing as a way to make sure that everyone is able to decompress and process the session, as well as having an open line of communication between the table as a whole and any personal messages that you may wish to send to me. I believe that Debriefing and Aftercare can go hand-in-hand. If we can debrief and process the session and understand any negatives or positives from it, then that can help with any emotional bleed or any crossover that may occur from the session to real life. Additionally, as mentioned above there is an open channel for all members of this adventure and any other campaigns or one-shots I will be running on StartPlaying, to communicate with each other and grow the community! Having a group of people, you can talk to outside of just your campaign party can make a huge difference! I truly want everyone to enjoy the experience and ensure that all of my players are comfortable and eager to carry on! With that being said, there will be built in breaks for everyone to process the session, players are also welcome to take breaks as needed for their own personal well-being. I will be using a safety bot in the Discord Server for the X Cards, when using the bot, the X Cards are submitted anonymously so there is no need to worry about the rest of the party knowing who submitted the card. However, if you would rather message me directly for your X card or put it in the chat, you may do that as well.
