About the adventure

Agent, your mission should you choose to accept it, is to find and destroy evil around the realm. Each week, you and your team of agents will receive a briefing outlining your mission to an evil threat plaguing the world. The game will be light on narrative and heavy on defeating "the monster of the week." But you'll need more than raw strength to survive. It will require cunning, strategy, stealth, and creative thinking to make it out of these dens of evil alive. If you're looking for a lighter narrative game and want to chuck dice at monsters, loot dungeons, earn gold, and achieve glory, this game is for you! This loosely held together campaign will play through all the dungeons of MCDM's adventure book, "Where Evil Lives." These monsters may look familiar, but they will be different from what you've faced in any DND campaign. And assuming your character survives, you'll get to take your hero from level 2 to level 20 quicker than you will anywhere else, experiencing every tier of play the game has to offer.

About me

Welcome to the Wolfepack! My name is Ian, and I'm glad you're here. I’ve been playing DND for the last five years. I got into the game as an activity to do with my sons during the pandemic and fell quickly down the rabbit hole! I love the opportunity this game provides for community, shared storytelling, building community, and the chance to feel like an epic hero we used to dream about being as kids. I have run one-shots and longer published adventures such as Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. I always like to add my own little homebrew elements and give my players moments to shine. My favorite moments in game are when I get to sit back and watch the players make the game theirs, through moments of roleplay, strategizing, and making the world I’ve put before them their own. Since falling in love with DND, I’ve also begun exploring other TTRPGs. I am currently learning different systems, such as those produced by Free League, MCDM, & Critical Role. I keep up to date on DND news and new product releases. As a DM, one of my baseline principles is to remain a student of the game. I have learned much about what is to be a DM from watching liveplays, but also from my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session zero, we will go over character creation, including rolling stats. Players comfortable with building characters can start working on them on DND Beyond. Players will start at level two. We will be using the 5.5e rules for character creation and game play. Please use only those classes and subclasses that are in 5.5e officially published content. I will provide players with a DND Beyond link where they can build their characters and join the campaign. All of the resources that I have will be accessible to you for character builds.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I like to run my games through Zoom. You will need to have the Zoom app downloaded, as well as a DND Beyond account. I primarily use DNDBeyond Maps for our games, and having access to a digital character sheet is handy. These accounts are free to make, and you do not need to purchase anything else. I will be setting up a Discord server at some point for our game. When that is up and running, I will send you an invite.

What Ian Wolfe brings to the table

During our game, I try to make the world as immersive as possible. I don't always have access to sound effects or background music, but I will bring them in when I can. I do try to give every NPC you will come across its own unique voice and flavor. Much of our gameplay will be theater of the mind, except for when we have maps to utilize. DNDBeyond will provide each of your characters with a digital token to use on the maps. My games are a good mix of roleplay and combat. I run games Rules as Written, but allow freedom for those awesome moments of player creativity to bend the rules to your favor. I love rewarding players for their awesome ideas and great moments of roleplaying.

Homebrew rules

Safety

How Ian Wolfe creates a safe table

During our Session 0, we will go over safety tools for use in my games. If you're unfamiliar with the term, a safety tool is simply a device to make sure everyone is comfortable and having fun at the table. I will bring up Lines and Veils and x-cards. After sessions, I also like to check in with everyone to make sure they had a fun time.
