About the adventure

Our adventure begins in the sweltering summer of 1929 with a recruitment notice for a prestigious archaeological expedition into the Andean highlands of Peru. Amidst the thin mountain air and ancient ruins, a diverse group of specialists (thats you!) forms an unbreakable bond with the charismatic author and researcher Jackson Elias. What starts as a hunt for history provides a first, unsettling glimpse into the dark corners of the world—a mystery that will lay the foundation for an epic journey that spans the globe. Masks of Nyarlathotep is widely regarded as one of the greatest tabletop campaigns ever written. This is a globe-spanning epic of investigation and cosmic horror that will take you from the smoky speakeasies of Harlem and the fog-shrouded streets of London to the sweltering bazaars of Cairo, the jagged peaks of Kenya, the parched Australian Outback, and the neon-lit decadence of Shanghai. You will follow a trail of fragmented notes and ancient artifacts, always one step ahead of multifaceted cults serving an alien god with a thousand forms: Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos. Who is this for? This campaign is designed for anyone who loves deep mysteries, historical immersion, and high-stakes drama. No prior knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos or Call of Cthulhu rules is required. New players are warmly welcomed and will be guided through character creation and the 7th Edition ruleset. Join us, and help hold back the darkness... for now.

About me

Hey! I’m Rane — a full-time Game Master and owner of The Death Save Society with a deep love for story-driven, character-focused tabletop RPGs. I’ve been running games for years across a wide range of systems, but no matter the ruleset, my focus is always the same: creating immersive worlds where player choices matter and characters are allowed to grow, fail, and shine. I specialize in cinematic, roleplay-forward campaigns that balance emotional storytelling with meaningful combat and player agency. I love weaving character backstories into the core narrative, designing memorable NPCs, and building moments that feel earned — whether that’s a quiet campfire conversation, a tense moral dilemma, or a high-stakes showdown that changes the world. My tables are welcoming, collaborative, and beginner-friendly. You don’t need to be an expert or a voice actor to play in my games — just someone who’s excited to engage with the story and respect the people at the table. I use safety tools, encourage open communication, and prioritize making sure everyone feels comfortable and included. Outside of the table, I run multiple long-form campaigns, one-shots, and live-play games, and I’m always experimenting with new ideas, settings, and systems. I love building worlds that feel alive and evolving, and I treat every campaign as a shared creative project between myself and my players. If you’re looking for a game where your character matters, your choices have weight, and the story remembers you, I’d love to have you at my table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created collaboratively during Session 0 where we will go over the basics of what each stat means, how they are implemented into the game and find out connections that each of your characters would have with each other and a friend of yours named Jackson Elias! Pregenerated characters are also available if you wish to go down that road as well!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will meet weekly in my custome TTRPG server over on Discord. Sign up for a free Forge VTT account here https://forge-vtt.com/ Its always a great idea to have a brief idea of what you want your character to be but if your coming into this campaign blind thats perfectly fine too I can assit you every step of the way turning a basic stick figure character into a full fleged investigator!

How Rane creates a safe table

👂Open Communication👂 I am always online in some facit or another and encourge all my players to reach out to me about anything concerning my game in any way they feel necessary. My goal is to not only run a fun and enaging game for you all but to also host a safe and inviting community for all members of the TTRPG community both beginner and those of the OSR days 🫱 Post-Session Check-Ins 🫱 After each session, I’ll check in—especially after major moments or emotional beats. It’s a simple way to stay connected and make sure everyone feels heard, supported, and excited for what’s next. ⏸️ Breaks & Refunds ⏸️ Each session will include a short 15 minute breaks in the middle. If something unexpected forces a major delay or cancellation on my part (say, spontaneous food poisoning), I’ll issue a refund. Your time and experience matter. 🤗A Safe Space For All🤗 Tabletop role-playing games are meant to be an escape from the troubles of our daily lives. Above-table prejudices, including racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia are NOT acceptable at my table and will lead to your immediate removal.
